The Android 5.1 Lollipop will soon be making its debut in the smartphone world.

The introduction of the Android 5.0 Lollipop came with a complete overhaul of the appearance, feel as well as performance of the Android OS. According to those who have had the chance to use the new Android OS, it requires lots of fixes in order to be fully stable. These fixes are available on the new Android 5.1 Lollipop update.

Android 5.1 Lollipop features

Since this is a newer version of the Android Lollipop OS, it is expected that more features, updates as well as enhancements will be included in this Android OS. However, the most notable features to expect in the upcoming Android 5.1 Lollipop include:

Silent mode

The current Android 5.0 Lollipop OS came without the silent mode feature and this angered lots of Android users. However, Google is ready to make amends and re-introduce the silent mode into the new Android 5.1 Lollipop.

In the new OS, users will switch to silent mode in a very simple way. Just press the volume down button and your phone will go into silent mode. In the current Android 5.0 Lollipop, it is only possible to achieve vibration mode when the volume down button is pressed.

Better RAM management

The new Android 5.1 Lollipop will also come with improved management of RAM. Despite the fact that the company has not revealed any details about the fixes and improvements that have been directed towards better RAM management, the huge RAM requirements of this Android OS are enough reason for the company to improve the RAM management capabilities of the new Lollipop OS. In this way, users of the new Android 5.1 Lollipop will enjoy faster phones that are also more functional.

Enhanced Bluetooth and Wi-Fi functionality

One huge change that Android Lollipop users should expect with the coming version 5.1 of the Lollipop OS is a shift in the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi functionalities. In the new OS, the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi toggles will show a list of connections that are available. This is different from the Android 5.0 Lollipop functionality for the same features, where the available list of networks was displayed but in a new window.

OK Google feature

This is one fancy feature that was introduced in the current Android 5.0 Lollipop. Using this feature, users of this operating system can simply say “OK Google” and the Android device will initiate a voice search tool or even command Google search to do a certain action for you. However, this feature is still in its initial stages and as such, it was full of bugs and many other issues, all of which have been taken care in the new Android 5.1 Lollipop and in the process making the “OK Google” feature very respectable.

Release date

Since the release of the Android 5.0 Lollipop, many updates, tweaks and improvements have been included in the OS with versions 5.0.1 and 5.0.2. However, it seems Google is now ready to go ahead with the release of the Android 5.1 Lollipop, which is expected to fix the many problems that have been discovered in the later versions of the Android 5.0 Lollipop. Even though this update was expected sooner or later, it is now public that the new Android 5.1 Lollipop update will be available this coming March.
