WhatsApp Web for iOS Users – How to Get it?
WhatsApp Web is the PC client that WhatsApp users can use to access the services of this instant messaging application on their desktops and laptops.
This change came in this year and since its inception, it has been met with mixed reactions among the millions of WhatsApp users across the globe.
Since its inception, WhatsApp only offered users instant messaging services from a mobile phone. Unlike other apps like Skype, Viber and Line which offer users services on both PCs and mobile devices, WhatsApp has been making this happen only from the mobile phone end. However, this is no longer the case as this application has now found its way to the desktops.
WhatsApp Web was met with mixed reactions when it was introduced. This is due to the fact that the first version of this web client had support for a limited user base which only included Android, Nokia, BlackBerry and Windows Phone users. Furthermore, only those that had installed Google Chrome on their PCs could use this application on their PCs. This posed a huge problem for users of iOS, Firefox, Safari and Opera browsers since they could not access this service, unless they switched their devices to more complying browsers.
WhatsApp Web for iPhone users
WhatsApp is no longer restricted for use on Android, Windows Phone, BlackBerry and Nokia devices only. Just like in the past, where users of this app could still use it on PCs with the help of an Android emulator, it is still possible to use WhatsApp Web on iPhones, but with the help of application software known as WhatsApp Web Enabler.
There is a catch when using this WhatsApp Web Enabler app. In order for it to work, you must be using a jailbroken iPhone running on at least iOS 4 and above. This is because only a jailbroken iOS device will allow installation of apps coming from outside the iTunes App Store. This application will tweak your phone and enable you to use the latest version of WhatsApp Web on your device.
Post installation of the WhatsApp Web Enabler, you should be able to see a new setting added to the list of settings of the app, which is of course WhatsApp Web. From here henceforth, the application works in similar fashion as the Android or Windows Phone versions.
WhatsApp Web now available for Mozilla Firefox and Opera browsers
The latest version of WhatsApp now comes with additional support for Mozilla Firefox and Opera web browsers. This means that users are no longer restricted to using Chrome in order to use the PC client.
Using Chrome, Firefox or Opera web browser, go to the site https://web.whatsapp.com/. On your iPhone, tap on the WhatsApp menu and then follow it by selecting WhatsApp Web. Go ahead and scan the QR code that appears on the above opened page on your PC and the application will log you in.
The WhatsApp Web Enabler comes with an option of directly disabling the use of this client on your iPhone through the Settings. The latest version has also taken care of the many issues that users reported when it was first released. At the moment, this application is not supported by Apple and it is not found in the official iTunes App Store.
You can download the latest WhatsApp Web Enabler free version from the BigBoss collection in Cydia. Whether WhatsApp will find a way for iPhone users to access WhatsApp Web client without third party apps is yet to be known, but for the moment, using the WhatsApp Web Enabler app seems to be the only viable option for iPhone users to access the web client on PCs.
