Kirk Hammett Loses Riff-Filled Phone
Apparently, Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett likes to record riff ideas on his phone for future use. Similarly, I record voice notes to myself with my phone, with ideas for books and screenplays I’ll probably never get around to writing.
Hammett, a recent guest on Hatebreed frontman Jamey Jasta’s podcast according to Blabbermouth, claims he lost his riff-filled iPhone six months ago.
He claims the phone contained about 250 ideas for the new Metallica record.
“I was crushed,” Kirk says. “It didn’t get backed up. And when it happened, I was bummed out for about two or three days. I walked into the house. My wife saw me and she said, ‘Uh-oh, what’s wrong? Did you get a phone call from a relative?’ I said, ‘No.’ She said, ‘What’s going on?’ I told her, and she understood.”
Kirk has no idea where the phone may be.
“I’m still looking for it to this day. I just set it somewhere and… It still might turn up. I’m hoping it will. To try to remember those riffs…? I can only remember, like, eight of ‘em. So I just chalked it down to maybe it just wasn’t meant to be and I’ll just move forward with it.”
That blows, man. Over 200 songs ideas, just vanished?
I bet you some enterprising metal musician finds the phone and releases an album based on its contents.
Hammett also told Jasta that Greg Fidelman will be involved with the new Metallica album’s production.
