Microsoft Windows 10 is going to be an operating system that favors the users in all ways possible and allowing you to go for a clean install without having to upgrade the existing OS is one another benefit that the company offers.
In a recent press statement, the company announced that everyone who owns a genuine copy of Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 will be eligible to receive a free upgrade to the latest operating system. The upgrade will be valid for one year from the time they install it and when doing so, you can either choose to install the OS on the existing hard disk or do a complete re-format so as to go for a clean install. Just because you wiped your hard disk doesn’t mean the free offer will become void, confirmed the company in a Twitter statement.
Speaking about the free upgrade, Gabe Aul, the general manager at Microsoft, who took to Twitter said, “The one year validity for the free upgrade will remain intact whether you install it or not. Even if you choose to completely wipe clean your hard disk so as to install the operating system, the free upgrade will be applicable for all users. Moreover, users don’t have to worry about keeping their Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 product keys intact, because the devices will automatically detect them before installing Windows 10 on it”.
The feature allows the users to do as they please, because some of them may like to retain their files, while the others may prefer a clean install so as to experience the new operating system at its fastest speed. There is even an option to use .ISO file from a disc, in case you have purchased the OS from a retailer and own a physical copy of the same. All these features are designed to provide maximum usability for the users and to make a decision based on their individual requirement.
At the moment, there is no word on the fees that Microsoft will impose on people for upgrading to Windows 10 after the one year free license expires. Most opine that it will be cheap and affordable because the company is keen on retaining their legitimate users, whereas steps are being taken to ensure that those who are still using pirated copies could hop on board. But, free genuine copies will not be distributed to pirates as announced earlier.
