The cameras that our smartphones come with are allowing us to capture photos or videos for any moment in our life. Nowadays, fewer people are using digital cameras to take photos and instead they just use their smartphones’ cameras. These cameras have evolved and now you can make some great photos and videos with them.

One of the big problems is the storage and we don’t always have enough space for all of them. This is why cloud based photo storage services are getting more and more popular. Today we’re going to talk about five important photo storage services so you can get an idea about which one you want to use.

Google Photos

Google Photos was presented during I/O 2015 and it is a very powerful application. It can be found on the Google Play Store and it allows you to store unlimited photos that are taken at standard resolution. Google Photos will help you organize, store and share photos easily. It will categorize the pictures in: People, Places and Things. For this, the application will use the facial recognition, GPS location and image search capabilities.

Dropbox Carousel

Dropbox has released their Carousel application back in 2014. The application offers only 2GB of free storage but it is good to know that you can get a terabyte for only 10 dollars per month. It is good to know that you can upload different type of files on Carousel, not only images or videos. Using Carousel, you will also be able to share photos and videos with others and in case they are using Carousel also, the transfer will be made via the application. The application is available for both iOS and Android devices and can be installed via the official store.

Amazon’s Cloud Drive

In case you have an Amazon Prime membership, you will get unlimited online photo storage. However, as a normal Amazon user, you can always pay 12 dollars per year to get the same service. The good thing about Amazon’s Cloud Service, is that you can store photos from different devices such as Android, iOS, PC, Mac etc.

Amazon will store the photos with their original resolution, which means that the people who don’t want to lower the photo quality, will prefer to use this service.

Apple iCloud

In case you own an Apple device, then there is a high chance that you are already using this service via Photo Stream. Apple has two storage solutions: the Photo Stream and iCloud Photo Library.

Photo Stream allows you to store your latest 1000 most recent photos in the cloud, while the iCloud Photo library is backing up all your photos. In case you’re out of storage, you can always buy some extra GB. So, as long as you are an Apple user, you’re pretty stuck with iCloud’s photo storage.

Flickr

Flickr is an application available for both iOS and Android devices and was created by Yahoo. Yahoo is trying hard to rebuild its image and we’re pretty sure that this application will bring them to the right track.

Flickr has been storing photos online since 2004 and comes with an awesome image searching tool that allows you to find pictures made a few years ago with ease. In 2014, Flickr started offering a free terabyte of storage for everyone. Also, if that’s not enough for you, don’t worry, because you will be able to get UNLIMITED storage for only 25 dollars per year!

The free option comes with ads, which means that in addition to your photos, you will also be looking for products and other stuff.
