HTC One M9 vs Asus ZenFone 2 – Metal or Brushed Metal?
Last year, Taiwan’s computer hardware and electronics company Asus released three Zenfone models, but none of them broke the barriers to make history and that’s because they didn’t have an exceptional design and their specs weren’t too advanced either. This year, Asus has returned with three variants for the Zenfone 2, and the high end model is ZE551ML, which drew everyone’s attention because of its RAM capacity of 4GB. A few months ago, the other Taiwanese company HTC released the One M9, which is the successor of the M8 and it looks pretty much the same on the outside as the previous model. Here’s a comparison between the flagships of both Taiwanese manufacturers.
ZE551ML is the high end variant of this new phone and even if it’s packed with impressive components, it’s way more than affordable than other flagships, costing only 299 dollars in the US. The device has an improved design over the previous models, but it’s not unique, because it stole the brushed metallic-like finish and the idea to place the volume and power buttons on the back, below the camera, from LG. However, the Zenfone 2 has the three capacitive buttons located below the screen and the body shape of the device is rectangular, while the Zenfone 2 has a floating arc design and the capacitive buttons are integrated into the touch screen.
The Zenfone 2 isn’t very thin, measuring 10.9mm and has a weight of 170grams. Its display is IPS, sized at 5.5inches, but it supports Full HD resolution of 1920×1080 pixels with 403ppi, and benefits from Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It comes loaded with Android OS, v5.0 (Lollipop) and the users can select one of the two variants of quad core Intel Atom processors: one of the models is more powerful, featuring a Z3580 CPU clocked at 2GHz, which is paired with 4GB of RAM, while the other model is using a Z3560 processor, which runs at a speed of 1.8GHz and which is paired with 2GB of RAM. However, both processors were based on 64bit architecture. Regarding the internal memories, the capacities are 16, 32 and 64GB, but the first two ones can be increased up to 64GB. The phone has a main camera of 13MP with dual-LED flash and autofocus, but it lacks OIS, while the front camera is 5MP. The battery is pretty big at 3000mAh and the available color options are Ceramic White, Glacier Gray, Osmium Black, Sheer Gold and Glamor Red.

This year, HTC didn’t focus much on improving the design of the new flagship. It has the same unibody metal design with dual stereo speakers on the front side and two thin strips on the back to hide the radio antennas. The only thing that was changed is the color of the frame and the device is a bit shorter and narrower, but thinner. It measures 144.6×69.7×9.6 mm, it weights 157grams and the screen has the same size as the previous model: 5inches with 1080×1920 pixels at 441ppi. It runs on Qualcomm’s latest MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 octa core processor with two quad core processors clocked at 1.5GHz and 2GHz, which are paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, expandable up to 128GB. The operating system is Android OS, v5.0 (Lollipop) and the two cameras are 20MP with dual-LED flash on the back and 4MP Ultrapixel on the front.
The M8 had the 4MP camera on its back, but the photos weren’t as great as expected, so HTC decided to ditch it in favor of a camera with a higher resolution. The battery is 2840mAh and non-removable, but it has a feature called Quick Charge 2.0 which allows faster charging. The phone can be bought from Amazon at a price of 600 dollars.
