Microsoft Lumia 940 vs Lumia 930 – The Successor Will Have At Least Four Improvements
The Lumia 940 will be one of the high end smartphones that Microsoft will release in 2015 and it’s expected to arrive in Q3 with many improvements over the previous Lumia 930. Its specs haven’t been confirmed, but the phone has been spotted on GFXBench.
Displays and designs
The previous Lumia 930 came with an AMOLED display sized at 5inches, which supports 1080×1920 pixels and 441ppi, a normal resolution for last year’s flagships. This model has a ClearBlack display that doesn’t have a problem in direct sunlight, because the content will be visible without needing to adjust brightness. The front panel is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, the back is made of plastic and has an aluminum frame running around the edges. Also, the body form is rectangular and the corners a a bit rounded.
The Lumia 940 will be larger, but we haven’t seen any leaked image of it, so we can’t give you any dimensions, but we’re assuming that it won’t be so different from its predecessor. However, the screen will be 5.2inches and will support 1440×2560 pixels at 565ppi, being protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 4.
The Lumia 930 came packed with a 32bit Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 chipset which was powered by a quad-core 2.2GHz Krait 400 chipset that was backed by Adreno 330 graphics and 2GB of RAM. The successor will receive a 64bit Qualcomm MSM8992 Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor likewise the LG G4, which will have a dual core processor clocked at 2.82GHz and a quad core processor running at 1.44GHz, which will be helped by Adreno 418 graphics and 3GB of RAM. However, the internal memory won’t be changed, so it will have the same capacity of 32GB, which won’t support expansion.
The back camera won’t suffer any changes, remaining at 20MP and will use Carl Zeiss optics, PureView technology, 1/2.5” sensor size and 1.12 µm pixel size, but Microsoft will replace the 1.2MP front camera with a 5MP shooter.
The Lumia 930 came with a Li-Ion 2420mAh battery which lasts 15 hours and a half when making calls over 3G. The Lumia 940 will receive a 3,000mAh battery, which will be removable.
The upcoming Lumia 940 will support 3D-interaction and will feature an Iris scanner, a native Pen support, USB Type-C & Dual-Role support etc.
