Asus Zenfone 2 Latest Firmware – Unlock The Bootloader

0

If you own an Asus Zenfone 2 device, you will surely want to know about this trick. In case you are using the latest firmware on your device, you will be able to unlock the bootloader with a simple trick. However, before we tell you how to do it, we’re going to list the specs of the Asus Zenfone 2.

The Asus Zenfone 2 comes in three variants, but we’re going to give you the specs of the high-end variant, which is also known as ZE551ML. The device comes with a 5.5inch display that supports a resolution of 1080x1920pixels at 403ppi. It is powered by an Intel Atom Z3580 (the 4GB RAM model) or Intel Atom Z3560 (the 2GB RAM model) and has a PowerVR G6430 GPU. Zenfone 2 features a primary camera of 13MP, a secondary camera of 5MP, and comes with an internal storage of 16GB, 32GB or 64GB, that can be expanded with a microSD card up to 64GB. The device is powered by a non-removable battery of 3000 mAh.

How to unlock the bootloader on your Asus Zenfone 2

According to a report from the “XDA developers” forum, you can now unlock the bootloader on your Asus Zenfone 2 device. This is possible only if the device is running on the latest firmware, which is version 2.19.40. Keep in mind that this firmware version was not released on all devices yet, so in case your device didn’t receive it, you will need to wait until it will be available for your phone. However, if you are lucky and your Asus Zenfone is running on 2.19.40 firmware, you will be able to unlock the bootloader.

HINT: Keep in mind that you will need to have your Zenfone 2 rooted or else this trick will not work (however, it’s not that hard to root a Zenfone 2 anyway).

You will need to enter the following ADB (Android Debug Bridge) commands to unlock the bootloader:

adb shell
su
getprop ro.isn > /factory/asuskey
reboot bootloader

After rebooting the device, the boot screen will be white and not back, which indicates that the bootloader is now unlocked. You should keep in mind that by doing this you can’t lock the bootloader back (at least not for now), which means that there is a possibility that you can break something if you are not careful. This is why we warn you to use caution to not mess up with your device.

Now that the bootloader can be unlocked on Zenfone 2, the developers can start working on custom ROMs and recover what they will want to run on this device.
