GoPro Hero 5 vs GoPro Hero 4 Black – Release Date, 8K Video Recording

According to rumors, the Hero 5 will survive 60 meters underwater and will support 3D recording and the videos will be captured at 8K. The new action camera will have a battery life extended by 150 percent and it’s expected to cost less than the Hero 4. Let’s see a comparison between the current Hero 4 Black and the upcoming Hero 5, whose existence hasn’t been confirmed yet, but the its rumored specs are spread over the internet.

Some of the rumors suggest that the next Hero 5 will come in October, while other reports are pointing out that GoPro will delay its launch because they’re working hard on improving some new features.

The Hero 4 Black is able to record 4K videos at 30 fps, 25 fps and 24 fps, while the Silver version can capture 4K videos at 15 fps or 12.5 fps. The reports suggest that the Hero 5 will increase its standards and will double the resolution to 8K, recording at a rate of 60fps, which means that the chip will need to be improved as well.

The Hero 4 Black and Silver can take photos at a resolution of 12MP, or 7MP, or 5MP and they’re able to capture up to 30 photos / second. The Hero 5 is rumored to come with dual-lens and 3D support.

Both current “Heroes” are powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery rated at 1160mAh (3.8V, 4.4Wh) which lasts between 50 minutes and three hours, depending on video modes and if the user enables the WiFi or not. The battery on the Hero 5 is expected to be increased by up to 150 percent, featuring a capacity of 2800mAh, which will make the camera thicker.

Currently, the deep dive limit for the Hero 4 Black and Silver is 40 meters, but the GoPro Hero 5 will survive down to 60 meters underwater.
