Both the Xperia M4 Aqua and Xperia Z3 Plus were launched this month, and it seems that they share a similar design. The M4 Aqua is loved by the Japanese fans, where it was firstly released, while the Z3+, which is an upgraded version of the popular Z3, is available worldwide. Unfortunately, this model is too expensive and the fans would rather buy the Xperia M4 Aqua, because it costs half the price of the Z3+. Here’s a comparison between these three smartphones, which will help you reach a conclusion and buy the phone that suits your needs.

Designs, dimensions and displays

The Xperia M4 Aqua is a mid-ranger that has many Sony elements and you’d recognize the company’s signature even if this model would be buried under a bunch of phones manufactured by other brands. However, the device has a polycarbonate material with nylon corners, for a better protection in case you’ll accidentally drop it to the ground. The dimensions of this phone are 145.5×72.6×7.3mm and it weights 136grams. The screen is IPS LCD, it measures 5inches and supports 720×1280 pixels at 294ppi. Instead of Gorilla Glass, it has a scratch-resistant glass on top of the display.

The Xperia Z3 was released in September, last year, and it came with an all-metal body with the back covered in glass and having aluminum trim. Its dimensions are 146x72x7.3mm, it weights 152grams and has a layer of shatter proof glass on top of the IPS LC display that measures 5.2inches. The resolution is higher at 1080×1920 pixels at 424ppi and Sony is using a Triluminos display and X-Reality Engine technologies to deliver clear and lifelike pictures.

The Xperia Z3+ hasn’t changed anything about the screen, it has the same height and width, but it’s thinner at 6.9mm.

Let’s not forget that all three phones are IP68 certified, meaning that they will survive at a depth of 1.5 meters in fresh water, for 30 minutes. This time, you will be able to take photos of yourself in the pool, while you’re swimming.

Hardware

The Xperia Z3 is powered by one of Qualcomm’s best 32bit processors: Quad-core MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 clocked at 2.5GHz, which is helped by Adreno 330 graphics and 3GB of RAM. There are two variants of internal storage of 16 or 32GB, but whose capacity support expansion up to 128GB. The phone runs on Android v5.0.2 (Lollipop) and soon, it will be upgraded to v5.1 (Lollipop).

The Xperia Z3+ received the new 64bit Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 octa core processor consisting of two quad core processors (1.5GHz Cortex-A53 and 2GHz Cortex-A57) and which comes paired with Adreno 430 graphics and 3GB of RAM. The current Android version running on it is 5.9 Lollipop. It houses 32GB of internal storage, also expandable up to 128GB.

The Xperia M4 Aqua has lower specs, meaning that it’s powered by a Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 octa core processor formed by a quad-core 1.5GHz Cortex-A53 CPU and a quad-core 1GHz Cortex-A53 CPU, coupled with Adreno 405 graphics and 2GB of RAM and it’s available in two variants of internal memories: 8 or 16GB, but there’s the microSD card slot that comes to your aid by increasing the capacity up to 128GB. For now, this phone is also running on Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Cameras

Both the Xperia Z3 and Z3+ have a 20.7MP rear camera with LED flash, 1/2.3” sensor size, HDR, panorama and other awesome features and both can record videos at 2160p@30fps. However, the Z3 has a 2.2Mp front camera, while the Z3+ is equipped with a much better 5.1MP shooter. The Xperia M4 Aqua offers a 13MP camera with a good performance, which is paired with a 5MP secondary snapper.

Batteries

The battery on the Xperia M4 Aqua is not that big at 2400mAh, and according to GSMArena, it lasts over 13 hours when making voice calls over 3G. The Xperia Z3 is equipped with a 3100 mAh battery and the Xperia Z3+ took a step back, shrinking the battery down to 2930 mAh.
