LINE Messenger for iOS Looking to Break into the U.S. Market with a New Emoji Keyboard
LINE is a very popular Japanese app that boasts a user base of more than 600 million people from all over the world.
However, a large part of this following is based in Thailand and the rest of Asia.
Now that the app has realized its potential, it has decided to venture into the U.S. market that is dominated by apps such as Snapchat, Google Hangouts and Facebook Messenger. LINE for iOS users recently received an updated emoji keyboard that adds more than 3000 stickers and emoji to this platform. However, the users of Android will have to wait a little longer before this update comes to this platform.
LINE Emoji Keyboard for the iOS app is available in the U.S and Europe, but not in Thailand, Taiwan and Japan
As earlier noted, LINE is a very popular app in Asia. However, more than half of the total user base of LINE comes from its mother country Japan, it’s largest market center Thailand and another major market, Taiwan. Surprisingly, these are the markets that the latest Emoji Keyboard for the iOS app has not been released.
The fact that this app is available in the U.S., Canada, Europe and the rest of the world and leaves out Japan, Taiwan and Thailand means that the developers of the app are truly focused towards reaching out to the rest of the world and not just Asia. Furthermore, it is very clear that the aim of the company is to bring in new users to the app’s ecosystem that includes apps that are independent of its char service, for instance, games, utilities apps and photo apps, among many others.
LINE Messenger is sending a message to WhatsApp, Skype, Viber and Co.
This is not the first time we are seeing LINE developers pull such an amazing stunt in the IM and VoIP world. Just recently, the app introduced a group calling app that allows up to 200 participants at a given moment. Even though this addition was something that caught the attention of many users, the new LINE emoji keyboard for iOS has the best chances of attracting more users to the platform, especially from the U.S. and Europe.
This news will not come as a sweet melody in the ears of those responsible for beefing up Skype, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. LINE has not enjoyed the best of markets in the U.S. and Europe, areas where Skype and Facebook Messenger have really thrived. However, it will not be an easy task for LINE to come in and outshine major players in the industry such as iMessage, which dominates a large part of the U.S. thanks to the popularity of Apple.
The U.S. messaging market is in huge fragments and as a result, it makes it a very difficult task for a foreign player to come in and thrive. In fact, most people in the U.S. have stuck to SMS services; however, the best part of LINE’s new update is that it’s a messaging app, which means that it will be available across all messaging services (and apps).
LINE emoji keyboard app for iOS includes free stickers
The new LINE emoji keyboard for iOS comes with a bunch of free stickers, however, you can get more of them if you download and install the latest version of LINE Messenger for iOS and buy from the app’s sticker store.
Even though the LINE emoji keyboard app is an amazing tool, there is still the worry of it being a third party app. It is not easy to trust third party apps in these digital ages, in this case, one that gives a few flashy and smiley faces, especially with the type of data that the phones carry.
