After rolling out a video calling feature and allowing the use of third-party apps from within the application, Facebook Messenger is now looking to take the competition with Google, Apple and Microsoft to the next level with a new digital virtual assistant.
Facebook is chasing after Google Now, Cortana and Siri with its new digital virtual assistant who has yet to receive an official name, but is codenamed Moneypenny. In this way, users of this application will enjoy a much easier use of the app as they will also have an assistant of their own, something that Android, iOS and Windows Phone users have been boasting on their in-house apps.
Moneypenny to offer stiff competition to Siri, Google Now and Cortana
The new Cortana that will soon be rolled out with the new Windows 10 comes in as one of the best voice assistants, if not the best. However, as noted above, there are also other big players in the industry. This is something that may look like an enormous challenge for Moneypenny.
However, one good thing about Facebook Messenger is that it already has a huge following and another potential following that is more than double what it currently has. There are more than 700 million people who currently make use of this app. However, the mother app has more than 1.44 billion users, all of which are eligible for a Facebook Messenger account.
According to the latest reports, the new digital virtual assistant by Facebook will be coming in to offer head-to-head competition to the already established players in the industry. However, to make it more unique and better placed in the highly competitive market, Moneypenny will not focus entirely on productivity, rather, the feature is aimed at helping users carry out detailed research on products and services offered online as well as aid with online shopping directly from the Messenger app.
Facebook striving to make Messenger the best IM in the world
This is not the first attempt by Facebook to come in with new features that are aimed at attracting more users and keeping the current ones happier. It has been doing so, especially in the recent past, adding more and better features, apps and services to the platform. However, not all of them have been successful, for instance, Poke apps.
Nevertheless, it is thought that the newest addition will spark different reactions from the millions who use this app. Things can even be better if this Moneypenny feature is incorporated into the services of Facebook Messenger Payment service. However, until official communication comes from Facebook, we cannot tell when this feature will be availed to the public.
