Google Messenger vs Alternative Download SMS Apps For Android

0

In 2013, Google replaced three services (Google Talk, Google+ Messenger and Hangouts) and created a communication platform called Google Hangouts, which was introduced on Android 4.4 KitKat. A year later came Google Messenger, a communication application with which the users can send SMS and MMS messages to any phone. You can download it from the Google Play store and install it on your Android device that runs at least 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Google Messenger has other features as well, such as sending group texts, images, audio messages and videos, emojis, it supports message archiving and allows you to color text threads. If you don’t want to be bothered, you can block the SMS sender and if you want to find a specific conversation thread or a contact, you can easily search through them.

The application has a nice and intuitive material design, the colors are bright, there is a floating action button and the cool animations are pleasing your eyes. The interesting thing about Messenger is that it studies the profile image of your contact with which you’re chatting and takes the most predominant color to assign it to your conversation.

Google Messenger was created especially for sending instant messages, but it lacks many features. Therefore, you can try some of the alternatives we’ll list below.

GO SMS Pro

It’s used by over 100 million people and its latest version 6.0 comes with Material Design influences. Its features include sticky conversations, dual SIM matching, SMS blocker, private box to encrypt messages and to protect your privacy and the messages pop up to reply to them easier. The strangers conversations are automatically categorized you’re your inbox is more organized. There’s also a Pro version which disables sponsored messages, it offers an Advanced Private Box for renaming or hiding entrance, faking notification, it has unlimited cloud storage space for message backup and you can install all the Getjar paid themes.

Handcent Next SMS

It was launched in 2010 and it brought awesome themes, ringtones, fonts and backgrounds which can be changed. Its features include: Handcent Anywhere (you can send texts from your tablet or computer); Private Box; SMS Backup; you can send ECards, emojis, and with Handcent Talk you can chat with your friends for free. Unlike GO SMS Pro, Handcent doesn’t come with in-app purchases and it’s totally free.

Hello SMS

It’s a good alternative to Google Messenger, being very fast and simple, it allows you to chat in groups, to send photos and switch between chats with a simple touch. It has no ads, it’s free and just received a new version which contains bug fixes, read receipts and sent indicators, free SMS texts between hello users, and if there are problems with free texting, the application switches to SMS.
