NASA's Google Earth Can Take You to a Trip to Mars
It would sound like a century to reach to the red planet.
However, with NASA’s new website, you can have a complete expedition to the planet and explore its features. NASA has named this expedition as ‘Mars Trek’ where you can have a look at the interactive maps collated with the data procured from the space agency.
The application set by NASA is similar to Google Earth. You can reconnoiter places for exploration over the planet too. In addition to that, NASA has even included the photographs of its four rover missions – Spirit, Curiosity, Sojourner and Opportunity, with the Phoenix lander. You can discover the red planet in 2D and 3D as well. Also, you can zoom in to explore the topography of the red planet.
You can enjoy your expedition with many exciting services offered by NASA. The spacecraft of Mars Global Surveyor overlays the visual data of a number of instruments you use while viewing the terrains. Also, Laser Altimeter of Mars Orbiter provides you to view the elevation color map. The topography can be viewed in the basic black and white color with the help of the data from the Mars Orbiter Camera. In addition to that, Spectrometer, that emits thermal energy, helps you to have a fair view of the landscape in near-infrared and thermal infrared that can be visible to the eyes.
With the help of the application, you can explore the tallest peak amongst the solar system, Olympus Mons and also Valles Marineris, which is a canyon laceration in the crust of the planet. It is approximately 2485 miles in length. The laceration is believed to be caused because of the tectonic movements.
NASA has not restricted the usage of Google Earth only its website. If you wish to have any of the features of the red planet at your office or house, you can simply download the STL file which can provide the selected area in high resolution. This file can be then printed with the help of a 3D printer and place it in your desired place.
Most of the crowd is excited with the explorations NASA make to Mars or any other planet. However, except the news and blogs, people do not gather much information. With such an application, the entire globe will be able to discover and ascertain the required facts. In addition to that, the 3D view has proved to be an added feature to the Google Earth of NASA.
