Sony Xperia C5 Ultra vs Xperia Z3 – A High-tier Phablet Challenging a Flagship Smartphone

0

Sony has expanded its portfolio with another awesome phone, which is actually a 6inches Xperia C5 Ultra handset. We’ll put it up against the smaller, but better specced Xperia Z3+, which was launched in June. Below, you’ll know all the differences between them.

Designs and displays

On the front side, they look pretty much the same. The have large screens with thin bezels on the sides, and front facing speakers, their backs are covered with glass and they have in common two color options: white and black, but there are additional and exclusive colors for each model: the Xperia C5 Ultra comes with a min shade, while the Z3+ is also available in aqua green and copper.

The phablet measures 164.2 x 79.6 x 8.2 mm, which means that is pretty big and it’s thick because the rear panel protrudes slightly. Also, it has the rear camera placed in the top center and its weight is 187grams. The screen, which is IPS LCD and uses Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 technology, measures 6inches and supports 1080 x 1920 pixels at 367ppi.

The Xperia Z+ has the rear camera in the upper left corner, it’s water and dust resistant and features a Triluminos IPS LCD display sized at 5.2inches that uses X-Reality Engine technology. It supports an identical resolution, but which results in a higher pixel density of 424ppi. The device is much thinner at 6.9mm and weights 144grams.

Hardware

Both phones come loaded with Android v5.0 (Lollipop), but their internal specs have nothing in common. The C5 Ultra houses 16GB of storage, with the possibility to expand it up to 200GB, while the Z3+ has a double capacity, and it can be increased up to 128GB.

As for the hardware components, the Xperia C5 comes with a totally different configuration consisting of a Mediatek MT6752 chipset that is powered by an octa core 1.7GHz Cortex-A53 processor which is backed by Mali-T760MP2 graphics and 2GB of RAM, while the Xperia Z3+ is more powerful thanks to its 1GB additional RAM and Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 octa core processor, which runs flawlessly with an Adreno 430 GPU.

Cameras

The rear camera from the C5 Ultra produces good quality photos, but for those who want a higher resolution than 13MP, the Xperia Z3+ is more indicated, because it features a 20.7MP back camera. Overall, they share the same features such as LED flash, autofocus, HDR, face detection, etc., but the Xperia Z3+ has 1/2.3” sensor size, 8x digital zoom and 4K video recording. The C5 Ultra beats it with its front camera of 13MP, but the 5.1MP secondary shooter from the Z3+ does a good job as well.

Batteries

Both batteries are non-removable and with a capacity of 2930mA, but the Z3+ offers 17 hours of talking time over 3G, with four hours more than its sibling.
