HTC One M9 vs iPhone 6 – Metal Is The New VIP
Perhaps Apple should think about coming with a new design for its products, which look like they’re cloned. Other companies are trying new ideas, they’re making their smartphones look more premium and HTC has evolved over time and perfected its flagships. In this article we’re comparing the One M9 with the iPhone 6, two totally different devices which are worth checking out.
Designs and displays
HTC moved from plastic to brushed metal on the One M8, but the next model came with almost an identical design, a screen of the same size – 5inches, which is a Super LCD3 whose resolution has been kept at 1080 x 1920 pixels with 441ppi. However, the phone gained 0.2mm of thickness, measuring now 9.6mm, because the battery has been increased and needed more room. The One M9 has a height of 144.6mm, it weights 157grams and comes in color variants of Gunmetal Gray, Amber Gold, Silver/Rose gold and Gold/Pink.
The iPhone 6 has only three color options of Space Gray, Silver and Gold and the usual aluminum build, but with thin horizontal strips on the back, instead of a wide band at the top and at the bottom. The phone is relatively shorter at 138.1mm, but it’s much slimmer at 6.9mm and weights only 129grams. The screen is LED-backlit IPS LCD with a diagonal of 4.7inches and the resolution is lower at 750 x 1334 pixels, which gives a pixel density of 326. The previous iPhones had screens of 4inches with even a lower resolution of 640 x 1136 pixels, so this was a small improvement. In addition, below the screen sits the famous TouchID – fingerprint scanner which brought mobile payments through Apple Pay.
The One M9 was among the first flagships to get the new 64bit Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 chipset that is powered by an octa core processor formed by a pair of quad core processors clocked at 1.5GHz and 2GHz respectively, which are backed by 3GB of RAM. The iPhone 6 has only 1GB of RAM, but you shouldn’t underestimate its dual core Apple A8 processor clocked at 1.4GHz, which demonstrated that it’s very capable, compared to other new rivals.
Regarding the internal storage, only the One M9 allows you to expand its capacity of 32GB up to 128GB. The iPhone 6, like all of its siblings, has unexpandable internal memories of 16, 64 and 128GB.
Both phones have rear cameras with an aperture of f/2.2 and dual-LED flash, but the iPhone 6 supports a resolution of 8MP – unchanged from the iPhone 4S, while the One M9 received a sensor of 20MP. On its front was placed the 4MP Ultrapixel camera, which does a good job, beating the 1.2MP front camera from the Apple flagship.
The One M9 sports a big battery of 2840 mAh which supports fast charging (Quick Charge 2.0 feature that comes along with the Qualcomm processor) and has an extreme power saving mode which extends the battery life of your phone when it’s close to dying.
The iPhone 6 has a disappointing battery of 1810 mAh which had some drain problems because of iOS 8.
