Google Now Lets Users Send Messages Using WhatsApp, WeChat or Viber
Google Now, the equivalent of Apple’s Siri and Microsoft’s Cortana, recently received an update that allows users to send to free messages using major instant messaging apps such as WhatsApp, WeChat, and Viber.
While this has been very possible via Google Hangouts and the default messaging app, the aspect of using Google Now for sending messages via WhatsApp and other messaging apps is very new. Messengers have been very successful at killing the messaging industry and with the introduction of voice-enabled messaging in these messengers; it is even getting more and more interesting to use these apps.
As noted earlier, Google Now already works with voice calling, making searches over the web as well as taking pictures. However, users had, first of all, to minimize this application before making use of WhatsApp, Viber or WeChat. This is no longer the case as you can do it even when in your web browser thanks to this update.
How to use WhatsApp, WeChat or Viber via Google Now
Using Google Now to send WhatsApp, WeChat or Viber messages is very easy. In fact, it works more in the same way as using it during Google voice search. Once you tap on the microphone icon, you can give any command to the app with respect to sending messages to other contacts. However, you must, first of all, enable Google Now by saying “OK Google” followed by the command “Send WeChat message to …….” Make sure you include the name of the contact you want WeChat, Viber or WhatsApp to send a message to.
Google Now feature only available for WhatsApp, Viber, and WeChat
If you are using any other messaging application other than Google Hangouts, WhatsApp, WeChat, and Viber, you may have to wait longer before Google roll out such an update for your application. However, if you want to use this feature for sending messages on any of WeChat, Hangouts, WhatsApp and Viber; you will have to download and install any one of them.
Another limitation is that this Google Now feature is currently available in one language only – English. However, since the company is aware of its widespread services and the number of non-English speakers that make use of its services, it is expected support for more languages will soon come to this platform. This is true because Google always works towards making thelife of its users easier than before.
When Android M comes to life, a new feature will also spring to life together with this new OS. The “Tap on now” will take the place of Google Now and again, this is aimed at making things much easier for you.
