Motorola released their new handset on the market either in late July or early September, depending on where you live, and it has brought on some new features. Today we decided we’d compare the Moto G 2015 with its predecessor, the Moto G 2014, to see what’s different and to find out which device would be a better catch.
The company is confident in their simple yet compact design and is ready to bring the Moto G 2014 look to the 2015 model as well. We’re faced with a rubber back case and a glass front, which doesn’t give the device a high-end feel, but it surely is convenient. What’s different with this year’s model is the waterproof factor that Motorola just added which is a great feature, but don’t forget it’s not unbeatable (if you leave your phone in water for hours, it will break).
Motorola hasn’t changed any specs in the display department, both smartphones showing off a 5 inches display that will render a pixel resolution of 720×1280. These specs were very good last year, which means that they are not bad for today’s market either. We’re not going to diss Motorola for not making any changes here.
However, if the company didn’t make many changes in the design and display departments, they surely made an improvement in both cameras. The Moto G 2014 had an 8 MP rear camera and a 2 MP front camera which are actually really good specs for both last year and this year. But the boost in megapixels for the new device is extremely welcomed: the Moto G 2015 shows off a 13 MP primary camera and a 5 MP secondary camera.
Moto G 2014 is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset on a 1.2 GHz processor that is backed up by 1 GB of RAM. As for the available operating system, we’re looking at Android Lollipop.
Its successor has improved specs, the processor working at 1.4 GHz with still 1 GB of RAM. The chipset on this smartphone is also improved, being Qualcomm’s Snpadragon 410. The OS is the 5.1 version of Android Lollipop, which in combination with the other hardware specs makes for a fast and powerful device.
In the ‘others’ department, the device hasn’t changed much either. We’re met with the same type of storage capacity which can be boosted via microSD card on both of the gadgets. The devices also show off a Bluetooth connection, as well as an Wi-Fi one. The only difference with the Moto G 2015 is that it has 4G connection available, which we didn’t see on the Moto G 2014.
We all know that battery life doesn’t rely solely on its capacity, but also on its processor and display’s needs of power. The capacity on the Moto G 2014 is of 2070 mAh, while on the Moto G 2015 is of 2470 mAh. Motorola did improve the battery on the new handset, but it was quite necessary seeing how they upgraded their hardware specs. The battery life will be almost the same on both devices.
Both Motorola smartphones started on the market at the same price: 179 US dollars. However, while the newer device is still found at this price, the Moto G 2014 is probably available at a cut price, seeing how its successor has hit the markets.
