There is no denying the fact that Windows 10 is the best OS yet to have come out of the Microsoft juggernaut.
It has carried a number of features from the previous Windows. It also has omitted several features from the previous versions of Windows – especially Windows 8. For that reason, you need to understand the strengths and weaknesses of Windows 10 before installing and using it.
Before delving into the features that Windows 10 does not have, one needs to appreciate the new features that the OS has, which include the following:
- Adjustable Start Menu
- Spoken reminders
- Hey Cortana
- Refined searches
- Forget-Me-Not files
- Reading list
The aforementioned features will make your work much easier when using Windows 10. On the other hand, it pays to understand some of the features that you will not see on the new version of Windows. The list of such features includes:
- Windows Media Center
The omission of Windows Media Center does not begin with Windows 10. Microsoft already decided against featuring the WMC with previous versions of its OS. The OS versions of Windows that lack Windows Media Center include Windows 8.1, Windows 7 and Windows 8. On the other hand, it is good to know that the omission of this feature does not signify death-knell for users who love it, as it is replaceable with MediaPortal, Plex and Kodi among others.
- DVD PlayBack
When it comes to DVDs, Microsoft says that the users will need separate software to play them back. If you find such an announcement a bit appalling, it would be great to realize that you have no limit of options. You can get any reliable third-party software and use it to playback some of your favorite DVDs. VLC media player is one of the most popular in the market today, thus it would be good to choose it as well as plenty of others.
- Desktop Gadgets
Desktop gadgets were among the most favorite features in Windows 8, but will not make an appearance in Windows 10. This omission should not make you to despair or stress out thinking that no better alternatives are in the market today. You can find similar features with some of the modern apps in the market today. For example, if you want to know the current temperatures and humidity, download the appropriate apps and install on your machine.
- Hearts, Minesweeper and Solitaire
Windows 8 never came with these features. Therefore, it is not surprising to note that they are nowhere to be found on Windows 10. Anybody upgrading straight from Windows 7 to Windows 10 would be shocked to notice the automatic removal of Solitaire, Minesweeper and Hearts. On the other hand, the knowledge that you can download official versions of these features from Microsoft’s App Store is adequate compensation.
- Floppy Drive Support
The use of floppy drive in 2015 should be out of the question. However, there are times when the user has no option other than to use it. Sadly, Windows 10 does not come with support for floppy drives. If you have no alternative other than to use a floppy drive, you need to understand that your best bet would be downloading the latest version directly from Windows Update. This way, you can use your floppy drives with little difficulty.
