WhatsApp for Web Now Works on Apple Desktops

0

WhatsApp, one of the most popular instant messengers of today, has launched a Web version of this application that is meant for use on Apple desktops.

This has been a problem in the past, thanks to the fact that WhatsApp Web, the desktop application for WhatsApp, was not compatible with the iPhone. Well, you may be wondering what WhatsApp’s compatibility with the iPhone has to do with usage of this application on a Mac or MacBook.

Here’s the deal. When WhatsApp users demanded a desktop application, Facebook went for something similar to what they have with their own social networking site – a web client. While many were expecting that a native desktop client will come out, something similar to Skype and Viber, WhatsApp Web was instead rolled out.

How it works

In order to respond to the above deposition, it is paramount that we take a look at how this WhatsApp for Web app works on desktops.

As noted above, WhatsApp Web was initially not compatible with iPhones; something that the company claimed was being caused by “Apple platform limitations”. This compatibility was needed in that for one to use the desktop client, the phone app must be used to log in as well as stay connected to the internet as well. In this case, the client could not work on iPhones; however, there were no prior problems with platforms like Android, Windows Phone, BlackBerry and Symbian.

Installing WhatsApp for Web on your Mac is very easy. The first thing you need to do is to make sure you have updated to the latest WhatsApp on your iPhone. This is necessary since the update is being pushed to the iPhone users, but gradually. So, it is possible that you might find your phones without this update from the word go.

Read WhatsApp messages using your MacBook

What the latest update means to the iPhone users is that they can from now henceforth access their WhatsApp messages via their Macs and MacBooks. Once the update comes to your phone, all you need to do is launch your Google Chrome web browser on your Mac and point it to http://web.whatsapp.com. A QR code will open up on this page. Launch your phone app and in the settings, you should see a WhatsApp Web option. Tap on this option and from there, scan the QR code on the screen of the Mac or MacBook and that’s it.

You will be logged into your WhatsApp account via the desktop and from there; you can start responding to your messages and enjoy the experience of using a larger keyboard and screen. Remember not to disconnect the iPhone from the internet as this will interfere with the syncing of messages between WhatsApp for iPhone and WhatsApp Web for Mac.
