Have you ever felt like you wanted to show the middle finger to someone on WhatsApp but it wasn’t possible? Well, there is something to smile about as the latest update comes in with this new ability.

The millions of people who use WhatsApp for instant messaging services will from now henceforth be able to show someone the middle finger in conversations. This emoji has been made available in the updated WhatsApp 2.12.250, which is available for Android users via the Google Play Store. To make things even much better for the millions who come from different backgrounds and countries, Facebook-owned WhatsApp has also added more colors to this emoji and others in this new app.

This update has long been available for iOS users where they could easily send emojis in six different colors. However, it is only in this new v2.12.250 version that Android users will be able to send emojis using multiple colors. This means that you don’t have to stick to the Caucasian complexion as the only option when sending emoji-based messages on this free messaging app.

Other than the middle finger and the additional colors in WhatsApp emojis, this new version also adds more features for Android users.

Ability to mute notifications

It is now possible to mute the notifications from a single WhatsApp contact for up to one year. This was initially possible only in group chats. However, this ability has now been brought to individual contacts. Alternatively, you can choose to mute these notifications for eight hours or one week. There is no option where a user can set a personalized period for muting these notifications, which something that WhatsApp is expected to update in the upcoming versions.

To mute notifications of an individual contact, tap and hold on a contact and then select “View contact”. While in there you will see the “Mute notifications” option with a slider against it. Move the slider to the right and a pop-up menu will appear where you can choose the period for muting chats. You can also choose to show notifications or disable them during the period notifications are in mute mode.

Custom notifications

WhatsApp 2.12.250 for Android also adds a new Custom notifications option where users can choose personalized settings as far as notifications are concerned. This option is also available via the “View contact” option, just like the above “Mute notifications” option.

When this option is enabled, users will be able to change their message notification tone, vibration, and popup notifications settings, light as well as call ringtones. This is also possible for group chats.

Unread option

Now, WhatsApp lets users mark messages as read or unread. In case you have little time on your hands and there is a message you feel you may forget to reply to yet you have read it, you can easily mark it as unread. A green dot will appear against this message as an indicator that it is not read.

To mark a message as read or unread, just press and hold the desired message and on the menu options that pop up, select either “Mark as read” or “Mark as unread.”
