ZenFone 2 vs. OnePlus 2 – Two Of The Best Chinese Phones

1

In the past years, China has been exporting many cheap mid-range and high-end smartphones which have almost the same specs as other known brands. Asus has a variety of smartphones of all sizes, but the most popular line is Zenfone and at the beginning of 2015 there were introduced three Zenfone 2 variants. We’ll take into consideration the high-end device, which we’ll compare with the OnePlus 2.

Designs

The Zenfone 2 (ZE551ML) has a plastic back with a brushed metal look, which imitates the LG G3. The manufacturer places only the volume buttons below the rear camera, while the power button sits on the top. The device is relatively thick, measuring 10.9mm and it weights 170grams. Also, there are five color options you can choose from: Osmium Black, Sheer Gold, Glacier Gray, Glamor Red and Ceramic White.

The OnePlus 2 is more like an upgraded OnePlus One, featuring the same design with a Sandstone Black back cover, but it’s 1mm thicker, measuring 9.9mm. This change was made in order to accommodate a larger battery and a fingerprint scanner, which was placed inside the home button. The phone has a metal frame covering the sides and the back cover can be replaced, because Asus offers a variety of back plates made of premium materials.

Displays

Both phones have screens sized at 5.5-inch and they support a Full HD resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, offering the same pixel density of 401ppi. However, the Zenfone 2 is fitted with an IPS display which goes up against OnePlus 2’s LTPS LCD screen.

Hardware

While OnePlus opted for the latest Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 chipset containing a pair of quad core processors which are backed by 3GB of RAM / the model with 16GB of storage or 4GB of RAM / for the model with 64GB of storage, Asus used two variants of Intel Atom chipsets: the high-tier Z3580 is powered by a quad core processor clocked at 2.3GHz and it supports 4GB of RAM, while the Z3560 chipset is powered by a quad core processor clocked at 1.8GHz and it’s paired with 2GB of RAM. The OnePlus 2 doesn’t come with a microSD card slot, while the Zenfone 2 allows you to increase the two variants of 16 and 32GB up to 64GB. There is a third variant which offers this maximum capacity.

Cameras

The Zenfone 2 has a simple 13MP main shooter with dual-LED flash, which records 1080p videos at 30fps. The OnePlus 2 has a camera with the same resolution, but which takes better pictures thanks to the additional features: OIS and laser autofocus. Also, the device is able to record 2160p videos at30fps.

Both phones have front cameras supporting 5MP.

Batteries

Few new smartphones come with removable batteries, but it’s not the case here. The Zenfone 2 has a smaller unit with a capacity of 3000mAh, which has a shorter life than OnePlus 2’s 3300mAh battery.
