Samsung Gear S2 vs. LG Watch Urbane – What To Expect From These New Wearables?

0

Samsung is getting more experienced in building smartwatches, but the latest wearable is still powered by Tizen instead of Android Wear. Luckily, the Gear S2 will be compatible with iOS devices, so if you own an iPhone, you will easily control this smartwatch. The biggest competitor is LG’s Watch Urbane, which came six months ago.

Designs

The Gear S2 is sporty-looking, while the Urbane has a more beautiful design, being a combination between geeky and classy. The Gear S2 is stylish in its own way and has rotating bezel with two buttons on the right side. On the top is located a power which you’ll use to navigate back home, but there is also a so called button which will take you “Back”. The Urbane has only a digital crown button placed on the right and its role is to wake and sleep the screen.

Displays

The Gear S2 is fitted with a 1.2-inch circular Super AMOLED display which supports a resolution of 360 by 360 pixels at 302ppi. The blacks are perfect, the contrast is excellent and even the colors appear natural, not oversaturated.

The Watch Urbane has a larger round 1.3-inch P-OLED screen with a smaller resolution of 320 by 320 pixels. The screen is decent, although it’s not as sharp as Gear S2’s and it seems that it has a warmer color temperature.

Interface

The Watch Urbane runs on Android Wear there are plenty applications available for this platform. The Gear S2 runs on Samsung’s Tizen OS and over 1000 applications are waiting for you to install them on this new smartwatch. The user interface was adapted in order to synergize with the rotating bezel. Google still needs to work on the Wear OS, because now, it’s in a skeleton stage and doesn’t have many features.

The Android Wear sync app can be installed on iPhones, but Samsung intends to achieve this in the near feature. For now, the S2 is compatible with the following Android devices: Asus Zenfone2; HTC One, One (M8), One (M9), 826W; Huawei Honor 4X, Honor 6, P8, Ascend Mate 7; Kyocera Duraforce; Lenovo Vide Shot, X2 Pro; LG

Z9; OPPO R7; Pantech IM-A910S; Sharp Aquos; Sony XPERIA Z2, XPERIA Z3; Vivo X5 Pro; Xiaomi Mi3, Mi4, Note Pro; ZTE V5.

Hardware

The Gear S2 comes with a dual-core 1GHz Exynos 3250 processor which is backed by 512MB of RAM, being slightly more powerful than some Android Wear smartwatches. The Watch Urbane has the same processor and memory as the Watch R: 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with 512MB of RAM.
