Sony Xperia Z3+ vs. HTC One M9+: Which Smartphone Has More Pluses?
In spring, flowers bloom and the nature revives. The same thing happens with the smartphone manufacturers who hibernate during the cold season, but they’re still very active, because they’re preparing the new releases. HTC prioritized the HTC One M9, whose launch was programmed for March, then in May, they brought the “+” model, which we’ll compare with the Xperia Z3+ device.
The Z3+ isn’t very different from the Z3. It has a glass back, a metal band covering the sides and the corners are protected by a nylon material which absorbs the impact when the phone is accidentally dropped. In addition, the phone is protected against dust and water, surviving 30 minutes 1.5 m under water. This device will draw your attention because it’s very slim, as it measures only 6.9 mm, while it weights 144 grams.
The One M9+ is as sleek as the M9, featuring a metal unibody design with two plastic strips on the back – at the top and bottom, which hide the radio antennas. The additional feature is the fingerprint scanner located on the front side, which gives easier access to the device by using your fingerprint to unlock it. The M9+ is a lot thicker than the Z3+, measuring 9.6mm and it weights 168 grams.
Both screens have the same size of 5.2-inch, but they’re using different technologies. The Z3+ integrated an IPS LCD display which supports a Full HD resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels at 424 ppi, while the M9+ has a Super LCD3 display which is crispier because of the higher resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels that gives a pixel density of 565ppi. Plus, Sony protected it with a scratch-resistant glass and the colors are very vivid thanks to the X-Reality Engine technology.
Both devices are powered by octa core processors, but the hardware configuration is totally different. The M9+ uses a Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 chipset which houses a pair of quad core processors: 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 and 2 GHz Cortex-A57, which are backed by 3GB of RAM, while the M9+ has a Mediatek MT6795T Helio X10 chipset which is powered by a simple octa-core 2.2 GHz processor and it supports 3GB of RAM, as well.
The internal memory has the same capacity of 32GB, and both devices allow you to expand it up to 128GB.
The Z3+ is fitted with a 20.7MP rear camera with LED flash, HDR, 1/2.3” sensor size, and video capture at a resolution of 2160p@30fps, while the front camera is 5.1MP and supports HDR.
The M9+ has a pair of cameras on the back, with resolutions of 20MP and 2.1MP, and the images look pretty good even in the dark, because the device has dual-LED flash. The video recording capabilities are the same, while the front camera is 4MP Ultrapixel, with a 1/3” sensor size and a 2µm pixel size.
The Z3+ has a slightly larger battery of 2930 mAh which offers 17 hours of talk time over 3G, while the M9+ is powered by a battery of 2840 mAh, which lasts 13 hours.
The Xperia Z3+ costs around 550 dollars on Amazon, while the One M9+ is almost 50 dollars more expensive.
