While Google Hangouts 4.0 might be the latest version of this messaging and calling app, it comes with some few glitches that hinder the smooth chatting experience the app already offers.
While the issue first appeared about a month ago when this new update was just coming in, Google has yet to come in with a permanent fix for the bug. This is not the first time Google Hangouts has experienced a glitch in its chat services. Before the recent glitch, it was also revealed that users of this application had had issues with sending MMS messages. Now the new glitch prevents users from chatting with their friends.
According to Android Police, the discovered glitch prevents Hangouts 4.0 users from using the chat service, but only under certain conditions. Google has succeeded in making the Hangouts app the main communications tool in all of its services. However, in so doing, some hackers have moved in to exploit this security hole.
The newly discovered bug demands that all Google accounts that have been linked to the Hangouts app be signed into for the chat service to work, something that appears to be technically impossible. While receiving and even replying to the received messages may not be a problem, launching or logging into the app may be a problem.
Quick fixes for Google Hangouts 4.0 chat issues
While there is still no word on when fix for this glitch will be rolled out by Google, Android Police has already moved in with a few tips and tricks on how you can get back to your normal chatting using this application.
The best solution for now is to revert to the previous version of Google Hangouts 3.3. Ensure that you disable automatic updates for the Hangouts app so that it doesn’t go back to version 4.0. Another way of handling this issue is to find the blocked account and remove it unless it is very important. Alternatively, you can use Admin privileges to activate Hangouts 4.0 in the affected account.
If you are using the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow, you can also try to disable AppSync via the settings page of the blocked account.
Even though the above fixes may work for now, the best solution is to sit back and wait for Google’s update, which will, of course, come with a fix for this problem. Users can also expect Google to come in with some new features for the updated Google Hangouts 4.x.
Google Hangouts 4.0 is compatible with Android Lollipop and above
Google Hangouts 4.0 is the latest version of this application. At the moment, only those using Android Lollipop and Android 6.0 Marshmallow Preview versions can download and install this app from the Play Store. The app features a revamped material design and a very clean UI. The new version’s performance is also better than before.
Since this new version of Hangouts 4.0 is still erroneous, users are advised to stick with the older versions for the time being, until Google rolls out an updated version.
