Apple iPhone 6S vs. Xiaomi Redmi 2 – Which Smartphone Is a Better Buy?
The long-awaited iPhone 6S was finally unveiled along with the phablet version. The new models are small improvements over the previous iPhones, inheriting their designs, screens and batteries, but many fans will want to buy them because of the new 3D Touch technology which was integrated into the screen, and for the faster processor and better cameras. We picked Xiaomi’s Redmi 2 to compare with Apple’s iPhone 6S and we’ll see how they stack against each other.
The iPhone 6S is identical to the iPhone 6, only that it’s slightly taller, wider and thicker, because Apple used 7000 Series Aluminum to build the chassis, in order to get rid of the bending problem. The device measures 138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1 mm, it weights 143 grams and has a fingerprint scanner hidden inside the rounded home button.
The Redmi 2 looks a lot like its predecessor, featuring a plastic back with curved edges. Its dimensions are 134 x 67.2 x 9.4 mm, it weights 133 grams and it’s available in five color options.
Both devices have a 4.7-inch screen, but Apple used an advanced technology to make the display more responsive. 3D Touch is an improvement to the Force Touch technology, which detects the levels of pressure sensitivity when a user taps on the screen, gaining greater control of the applications. The resolution of iPhone 6S’ screen is 750 x 1334 pixels, resulting in a pixel density of 326 ppi.
The Redmi 2 has a simple IPS LCD screen supporting 720 x 1280 pixels at 312 ppi and benefits from a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 2 for protection against scratches, while the iPhone 6S has Ion-strengthened glass on top of its screen.
The Redmi 2 is a mid-range smartphone with weak specs. Inside, it houses a Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 chipset which is powered by a quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 processor and likewise the Moto G 2015, it paired the variant with 8GB of internal storage with 1GB of RAM, while the other variant has a double capacity for both memories. But, again, the device isn’t one of the fastest, but it doesn’t have a mediocre performance, either.
The iPhone 6S is powered by the new Apple A9 processor with two cores running at 1.8GHz, which is backed by 2GB of RAM. Compared to its predecessor, it’s 70 percent faster, and without a doubt, it’s a beast compared to the Redmi 2.
The Redmi 2 allows you to expand the internal memory up to 32GB, while the iPhone 6S has fixed storage, which is available in variants of 16, 64 and 128GB.
The Redmi 2 doesn’t have exceptional cameras and their resolutions are 12MP (back) and 2MP (front). The included features are LED flash, autofocus, HDR, 1.4 µm pixel size, touch focus and the recording capabilities are limited to 1080p@30fps.
The iPhone 6S brought an improved camera software and the resolutions of both shooters have been increased to 12MP and 5Mp respectively. The phone is able to record 4K videos and has a new feature called Live Photos.
The Redmi 2 has a slightly bigger battery of 2200 mAh which can be removed, and it seems that it can last over a full day under normal use. The iPhone 6S received the same
1715 mAh battery, but Apple managed to extend it life by 3 hours, thanks to the new software.
