The HTC One M8, One M8 Eye and One M9 will not be updated to the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. However, these devices will probably be updated to the upcoming Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Unfortunately, Google hasn’t confirmed a release date of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but some reports are suggesting that this will happen sometime in September-October 2015.
The owners of HTC One M8 and HTC One M9 are currently stuck with the Android 5.1 Lollipop and the Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile carriers haven’t announced any plans related to the release of the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop for these devices.
Currently, the HTC One M8 Eye is running on the Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS. In the United States, the company hasn’t released any update for the HTC One M8 Eye. However, according to reports, the HTC One M8 Eye has been updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop in India, while other countries will have to wait for the next operating system update.
The big search engine company will release the Android 6.0 Marshmallow this fall, but it will take some time until the update will reach the manufacturers and carriers. So, if you thought that your device will get updated as soon as the Android 6.0 Marshmallow will get released, then you are wrong. Depending on the device you own, the carrier you are connected to and the region you live in, it can take weeks or even months until you will see your device getting updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
According to Venture Capital Post, Jeff Gordon, the senior HTC manager, confirmed that the HTC One M9 and HTC One M9 Plus will get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update but he didn’t mention when.
Without any doubts, the Nexus series will be the first devices that will get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update as soon as it gets released.
