Google Glass – Finding a Second Act and Getting it Right

0

The Google Glass is a smart eyewear that is connected to the Internet, being first released in the 2012 I/O conference.

However, a lot has happened since then. Many detractors of the eyewear felt that it intruded in their privacy and today, the new version on the way is known as the Enterprise Edition. It is meant specifically for workplaces, in hospitals or factories.

Explorer Version 2.0

The first Google Glass introduced in 2012 was only available to a few Explorers in the beginning and later available to anyone who wanted it. The watch is a platform that can use many apps. The interface is a very revolutionary one, as it exists on the user’s face, without any actual screen. You don’t need a mouse or a keyboard anymore, as the wearer of the device has all the powers with him.

Unique Look

The Glass has a unique look and no one can possibly mistake it for ordinary glasses. It comes with a futuristic look, with a thin frame and adjustable nose pads. However, there are no lenses or glass. On the left, there is a plain frame strip, whereas the right has the hardware. The prism that projects the display is in the front, along with a 5 MP camera and a control panel that is touch sensitive. At the back, there is a battery and a speaker.

If you already wear prescription glasses, it might be a little uncomfortably to wear the Google Glass, though it does fit on top of regular frames. Of course, there is an alternative where you can attach stylish frames and fit it with prescription lenses as well, but this will simply make it more expensive.

How to Set Up

It is quite simple to set it up using the Setup Wizard and running the MyGlass application, either through the Android or iOS devices. You have to link the device to your Google accounts and have a Bluetooth connection. You then link the glasses on to a Wi-Fi connection and are good to go.

Controlling the Glass

It is easy to do this, as you just have to tap the right side and then use swiping forward or backward movements to move between the different screens. Tapping opens a screen and swiping down action is used for going back. There is a Power button on the inside and a Camera button appears on the upper edge.

OK Glass

By saying OK Glass, you can access various voice controls, so you don’t have to use your hands. You can make a search on Google or take pictures, record a video or get some directions. You can also send a message or make calls. With more apps, there will be more options.
Improved Version

The new version of the Google Glass is its second act and is a work oriented one. The smart eyepiece will offer both performance and fulfill demands of working people. It comes with a hinge for attaching it to various glasses. The display or the prism is wider and thinner and is capable of moving horizontally as well as vertically. It is also said that the new Google Glass will have a new processor, an Intel Atom one. The wireless feature will also be improved and the battery packs are more lasting, attaching to headsets with the use of magnets. The business version will be released first and later on the consumer device.
