Moto G 2015 vs. Huawei Ascend Mate 2 – Which One Will Win The Best Cheap Phone Crown?
When comparing mid-range smartphones, we take into consideration the following aspects: how big their screens are, what resolution they support, how fast their processors are, which camera takes better pictures and which battery lasts longer. The answers to these questions you’ll find below, after putting the Moto G 2015 and the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 side by side.
Designs and Displays
The third generation Moto G is similar to its predecessor, because Motorola didn’t make too many changes to its exterior. The first things you’ll notice when you’ll look at its back are the diagonal pattern and the faux metal strip, which is placed on the vertical and contains the camera and the dimple with the Motorola logo. The back, which is made of plastic, is available in two colors: white or black, but you can choose a different color, thanks to the Moto Maker program. Unfortunately, Motorola didn’t provide other available materials, such as wood or leather, because only the Moto X flagship benefits from this privilege. The good news is that this handset is also water resistant. As for the dimensions, the Moto G 2015 measures 142.1 x 72.4 x 11.6 mm, it’s relatively light at 155 grams and it’s fitted with a 5-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, which gives 294 ppi.
The Huawei Ascend Mate 2 is a huge phablet that measures 161 x 84.7 x 9.5 mm and weights 202 grams, but this means that it offers a generous screen with a size of 6.1-inch. The technology is IPS+ LCD, but Huawei limited the resolution to 720 x 1280 pixels, resulting in a pixel density of only 241ppi. This means that the images aren’t very sharp, while the colors are cold and pretty bright. The exterior of the Ascend Mate 2 is made of glossy plastic (white) and the sides have faux metal accents. It has small bezels, while the screen takes up 79 percent of the front panel.
The Huawei Ascend Mate 2 was released in 2014, so it has an older 1.6GHz Snapdragon 400 processor which is backed by Adreno 305 graphics and 2GB of RAM. Its internal memory has a capacity of 16GB and it can be doubled with a microSD card.
The Moto G 2014 has the same processor, but a lower clock speed of 1.2GHz. The successor has a slightly better performance, as it received a newer 64bit Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 quad core processor which is clocked at 1.4GHz. The graphics are Adreno 306 and the RAM capacity depends on the internal memory. Motorola coupled 8GB of storage with 1GB of RAM, while the other variant has double storage and RAM. The microSD card slot will allow you to increase the internal memory up to 32GB.
Both the Ascend Mate 2 and Moto G 2015 sport a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera and share some common features such as autofocus, face detection, geo tagging and 1080p video capture, but Motorola added dual-LED flash and auto-HDR.
A giant phone like the Ascend Mate 2 needed a large battery and Huawei integrated an enormous 4050 mAh unit which provides 25 hours of talk time on 3G. Also, the device has a special battery-saving software, which extends its life. The Moto G 2015 is powered by a 2470 mAh battery, which lasts 2.5 hours longer than the predecessor.
