Roku 3 vs. Roku 4 – The Latest Leak Confirmed The 4K Streaming Capability
Roku’s upcoming media-streaming box hasn’t been unveiled until now, although we’ve been hearing all kinds of rumors saying that the launch of the Roku 4 is imminent. It seems that you’ll have to wait a little longer, but at least, now we have more leaked information on its specs.
A while ago, on the online Roku developers guide were accidentally slipped some details about Roku’s features and specs. On the website was posted a list with detailed information on every piece of hardware of all the Roku devices and the fourth generation media-streaming box was included. When the representatives of Roku realized that they’ve made a mistake, they’ve quickly removed the information from the website.
But we had plenty time to note down the technical specs of the Roku 4, and you’ll see that it will outperform the recently released Apple TV. First of all, it will support 4K streaming (or 2160p), while the user interface will be upgraded to a resolution of 1080p. The new device will be powered by an ARM quad core processor which will be backed by OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics and 1.5GB of RAM. The minimum internet connection should be 1.5Mbps, but for streaming 4K video, you’ll need a 25Mbps connection, but the box can handle media streamed at 40Mbps.
The Roku 4 will have digital audio output and a games controller which will support motion control and will communicate with the streamer via Bluetooth. The game remote will support voice search and a feature called “instant replay”.
This model has been released in 2013 and now it’s available at a price of 100 dollars. The device looks like a black box with rounded corners, it measures 89 x 89 x 25 mm and it weights 170grams. The Roku 3 is powered by a dual-core Broadcom Merlyn 900 MHz processor which is five times faster than that of the Roku 2 XS, and it’s backed by 512MB of RAM. The connectivity options include 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, Ethernet and USB, the device works with TVs that have HDMI port. The maximum output video resolution is 1080p.
