Let’s go back in 2014, when Google was creating some waves with its first phablet, the Nexus 6. This time, Google chose Motorola to create this phone and you’ll notice that the Nexus 6 is very similar to the Moto X 2014 flagship. One of the worthy challengers is the Meizu 4X Pro, which was released at the end of last year, so we’ll compare their specs and features and see which one is a better deal.
Designs and Displays
If you liked the plastic curved body of the Moto X 2014, then imagine that the Nexus 6 is much larger, and features the “nexus” logo written on the vertical. The device is water resistant and has two variants of colors for the plastic back with matte finish: Midnight Blue and Cloud White. We must warn you that it’s a very big phone, but comfortable to hold, although it’s kind of thick (10.1mm). The sides of the Nexus 6 are protected with a metal frame and the front has dual speakers, which are pretty loud. The screen is an AMOLED from Samsung, which is very sharp thanks to the QHD resolution (1440 x 2560 pixels), which gives a pixel density of 493 ppi, and you will be fascinated by the vibrant colors offered by this technology.
The Meizu 4X Pro has a simple design with a soft plastic back with curved edges and metal sides, it’s slimmer at 9mm and it has a fingerprint scanner integrated inside the home screen button. The device is also smaller, featuring a 5.5-inch IPS LCD screen, but its resolution is 1536 x 2560 pixels, which is able to support a pixel density of 546 ppi.
The Nexus 6 can be upgraded to Android v5.1 (Lollipop), but soon, it will run on Marshmallow. Inside, it has a 32bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 quad core processor clocked at 2.7GHz, which teams up with an Adreno 420 GPU and 3GB of RAM and there are two variants of internal memories, unexpandable, with capacities of 32GB and 64GB.
The Meizu 4X Pro is stuck with 4.4.4 (KitKat) and it’s powered by an Exynos 5 Octa 5430 octa core processor from Samsung, which has four cores clocked at 2GHz and four cores clocked at 1.5GHz. The processor is backed by Mali-T628 graphics and 3GB of RAM, and its variants of internal memories are 16/32/64 GB, also unexpandable.
Cameras and Batteries
Both of Nexus 6’s cameras are outperformed in terms of resolution, as they support 13MP and 2MP respectively, while the Meizu 4X Pro has a 20.7MP Sony rear camera and a 5MP front camera. Both phones have dual-LED flash, but only the Nexus 6 supports OIS.
The batteries are non-removable on both phones, but the Nexus has a smaller cell of 3220mAh, which stacks against the 3350 mAh unit of the Meizu 4X Pro.
Currently, the Nexus 6 32GB variant can be bought from Amazon for a price of 350 dollars, while the 32GB variant of the Meizu 4X Pro is around 40 dollars more expensive.
