Asus’ new ZenWatch 2, which has been unveiled on September 2, at the IFA trade show in Berlin, will be put on sale on the Google Store, where it will cost $149. The smartwatch will offer the latest Android experience and the buyers will be able to choose from a variety of straps and colors for the case.
If you’re short on cash, but you still want to buy a smartwatch, then Asus’ Zenfone 2 is one of our recommendations. It’s not only cheap, but it’s also good looking and it comes in two sizes – the 45mm model has a silver body with an aqua blue rubber strap, while the other model is larger, featuring a 49mm gunmetal case, while the strap is made of navy blue leather.
In China, the smartwatch comes with 18 different types of straps, even a Swarovski crystal-studded leather band. The rubber straps are colorful, but the buyers can opt also for leather or a stainless steel metal link bracelet.
The screen is AMOLED, it’s square and protected with 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass 3. Its diagonal is 1.63-inch for the larger model and 1.45-inch for the smaller device, each one supporting different resolutions: 320×320 pixels and 280×280 pixels, respectively. There is a large bezel surrounding the display, but since the smartwatch is so cheap, you shouldn’t have high demands from the ZenWatch 2.
The smartwatch houses a 300mAh battery inside the smaller model, which delivers 57 hours of standby, while the 400mAh battery which powers the larger model should last 66 hours. In addition, the device can be coupled with a 155mAh extended battery pack called ChargeBack, for a longer life. The new magnetic charger will charge the battery up to 50 percent in 36 minutes, so this feature will be very useful when you’re on the run.
The ZenWatch 2 supports also WiFi, it’s water resistant and comes with many fitness tracking features and a wellness application for the smartphone. There is also a remote control which controls the camera, changing it from front to rear and it’s also capable to adjust the zoom.
Also, the processor is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, which is backed by 512MB of RAM, and the internal memory has a capacity of 4GB.
