Google Maps – The Latest Addition in Apple Watch

1

Google Maps has finally found its way to Apple Watch.

Google Maps has been one of the main features on Android devices. By featuring on Apple Watch, which is an iOS device, the app is gradually cementing its place as one of the most popular in the tech world today. This new version is strictly for Apple Watch. The new version differs from what you will find at iTunes App Store when searching for Google Maps iOS App.

Simpler Apple Version

It is worth noting that Apple users show bias towards Google Maps as their preferred navigation app. Moreover, the Apple Watch version is much simpler to what you would get from smartphones. The Smartphone version has more features and is richer in many ways. On the other hand, the differences do not make the Apple Watch version less effective as a navigation app.

Features

The Apple Watch version of Google Maps makes it easier for users to obtain routes to their saved locations by tapping the appropriate buttons. Furthermore, this version also enables you to access different modes of transportation that your device can display, which include the following:

  • Driving Directions
  • Walking
  • Biking
  • Transit

Access to Most Recent Routes

A visit to the app store will allow you to see a list containing all the most recent routes that you have followed as part of your daily travels. The app can store the lists for all your travels. To obtain these lists requires tapping beneath either the home or work icons/buttons. This feature is available for use anytime without necessarily pulling your phone out. However, it is important for you to realize that the app is purely limited to providing directions.

While the Apple Watch version of Google Maps is full of limitations regarding what it can and cannot do, the introduction by Google of this competing platform deserves recognition. Google Maps is not only a detailed but also an accurate mapping resource that users can now get on Apple Watch. Considering the level of competition between Google and Apple, this launch is worth mentioning and hailing.

Google Maps is only the second app that Google has launched on Apple Watch. The first app that Google launched on the smartwatch was Google News and Weather. The only drawback between those two apps is that they are more of an underdeveloped version of what users have grown accustomed to Android platforms. Nonetheless, the launch indicates that Google is finally willing to take the platform that Apple offers more seriously.
