Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Does Not Particularly Blow You Away with its Newness
The Note 5 from Samsung Galaxy is a smooth and sleek smartphone coming with a huge screen and equipped with a stylus.
The S Pen is the only aspect that truly makes it unique. It is available in gold and silver as well as white and in sapphire black.
Be Ready to Pay More
It is also quite expensive though there are some promotional offers in some places. However, the 64 GB version is less than the 64 GB iPhone 6 Plus. When you compare the Note 5 with other phones with jumbo screens, it is surely more expensive. At AT&T, it costs $740 for the 32 GB; $840 for the 64 GB version.
Design and Build
The Samsung Note 5 comes with a display of 5.7 inches and a resolution of 2560 x 1440, with a ppi of 518. It is constructed of metal with glass and has dimensions of 6 x 3 x 0.3 inches and it weighs171 grams. Screen details are crisp.
An interesting aspect of the design is the frontal curves of the Edge+ being added to its back. It is very comfortable to hold and very slim and sleek, compared to the bulky Note 4.
Stylus – New Tricks
The dimensions of the new S Pen are 4.4 x 0.2 x 0.1 inches. The S Note application is very smooth with an autosave function. The pen comes with a click in the holster and a recessed button, clicking audibly into its place in the chute and fitting snugly. You can use it for writing, for pointing and for navigation purposes. It is useful for pulling up menus or photos, by hovering over with the pen. It is also useful for dragging text or dropping it and for capturing screens and a few other tricks.
App for S Note
The S Pen app has also been simplified and comes with new features. You can download tools, such as chart helpers, extensions for advanced tricks, shape recognition features, recording of sketches and so on.
Additional Tricks in Note 5
The shortcuts wheel has been redesigned. The Air Command is a floating icon that opens to show the circular menu having the frequently used applications, such as the S Note application or the photo gallery. You can also add a maximum of three apps on your own.
The feature allows users to produce action memos, almost like sticky notes, even after the screen has been turned off, but it works only when you just pull the S Pen out. It is useful for quickly jotting down notes.
The screen is large and lustrous, and it has a very powerful camera. The stylus has been improved, and the battery life is excellent.
However, it is only a marginal improvement on the previous Note 4. The storage slot is not expandable, with the battery being sealed in though it does offer cloud storage free. However, these negatives could pave the way for less expensive phones to become more popular, as they have removable batteries and storage slots.
Samsung’s Note 5 is a great pen for those who want to write using the stylus. However, the price is quite high, and it offers only a marginal upgrade from the previous model.
