Messaging applications are the most accessible methods to keep in touch with people from all over the world, and the best thing about them is that they’re free. Or most of them. And they offer a bunch of features, besides the standard ones, such as sending text messages, or containing images or audio files. Let’s check two of the most popular applications, Viber and WeChat, and see what extra features they have.
It’s a free calling application, but only if the users call they friends who installed Viber on their devices, If they’re calling a landline or mobile number, they will be charged, and there’s a service called Viber Out, which requires Viber Out credit, and the users can pay using their credit cards.
Viber can be installed on mobile devices such as Android, iOS, BlackBerry OS, Series 40, Symbian, Bada or Windows Phone and on computers running on Microsoft Windows and Mac OS and it’s available on tablets as well.
Now, there are almost 250 million active users who are addicted to Viber, because of its attractive features: smart notifications, the option to block contacts, to hide seen and online status, the possibility to turn off lightscreen when receiving notifications etc.
It was created by a Chinese company and it was launched in January 2011, being now used by 600 million people from all parts of the world. It has the same functionality as WhatsApp, allowing its users to send free messages to other WeChat users, but it has other interesting features as well, such as the possibility to invite other people to join.
Also, the users who shake their devices can connect with random people who are using the application, and if their friends are nearby, they can use the walkie talkie feature. There are also cool stickers which can be downloaded from the sticker market and the users can make video conferences or play video games.
