Nexus 6P vs. iPhone 6S Plus – Two Of The Best New Phablets

7

For months, we have been hearing rumors that Google will collaborate with LG to make the successor of the Nexus 5 2013, and that Huawei will be the second partner in charge to build another phablet – the successor of the Motorola Nexus 6 2014. Both the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P have been released, but in this article we’ll be focusing on the phablet, which we’ll compare to Apple’s iPhone 6S Plus.

Designs and Displays

The Nexus 6P is 1mm taller than the iPhone 6S Plus, measuring 159mm, but it has the same thickness of 7.3mm. Although both devices have an all-metal body (aluminum), it seems that the iPhone 6S Plus is much heavier (192 grams) because of two reasons – Apple used a new alloy called 7000 Series aluminum, which is more durable and thicker, and in addition, the screen supports a new technology called 3D Touch, which measures the distance between the screen’s glass and the backlight and detects two levels of pressure: soft and hard.

There are two gestures called Peek and Pop and they bring contextual menus on home screen icons, allowing the users to go directly to features in the most used applications. The screen size and resolution remained the same as on the previous iPhone: 5.5-inch with 1080 x 1920 pixels at 401 ppi. Also, if you’re a girl/woman, you will certainly love the new Rose Gold color option!

As for the Nexus 6P, is has a 5.7-inch AMOLED screen with a QHD resolution at 518ppi and on its back, below the horizontal black band that contains the rear camera, it has a fingerprint reader. The iPhone 6S Plus has also a fingerprint scanner, but it’s integrated into the home button.

Hardware

The Nexus 6P is powered by the second generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-core (four cores running at 2GHz, four cores running at 1.5GHz), which is backed by 3GB of RAM. The iPhone 6S Plus runs on the new Apple A9 1.8GHz dual-core with 2GB RAM and according to Apple’s representatives, the new processor is 70 percent faster than the A8.

Cameras and Batteries

The Nexus 6P has a 12.3MP rear camera, while the iPhone 6S Plus has a back camera of 12MP, which is close enough, but the Apple has an improved software and the images are clearly more accurate. When it comes to secondary cameras, the Nexus 6P offers a more advanced 8Mp shooter, which outperforms the 5MP shooter of the iPhone 6S Plus. However, both phones are able to record 4K videos.

As for the batteries, Huawei managed to fit a large 3,450mAh cell inside the Nexus 6P, while Apple equipped its phablet with a 2,916mAh unit whose life has been extended by three hours thanks to the new power save mode.
