Surface Pro 4 vs. Surface Book – Differences Between Them

4

Microsoft has two new high end devices, a tablet which can be connected to a keyboard (Surface Pro 4) and a laptop whose keyboard can be detached (Surface Book). Apparently, they can be used for the same thing, but the company insists that they’re different, although they are powered by the same type of processor.

Microsoft equipped both of its devices with the latest sixth-generation Intel Core processors and the options are i5 and i7. The Surface Book is using Intel HD Graphics 520 or, optional, Nvidia GeForce graphics in keyboard dock and supports 8 or 16 GB LPDDR3 RAM with storage options of 128 GB, 256 GB, 512GB and 1TB. The Surface Pro 4, on the other hand, coupled the i5 processor with Intel HD graphics 520 and the i7 processor is backed by a more powerful Intel Iris 540 graphics. As for the memory, it’s available in three variants of 4GB, 8GB and 16GB, while the storage options are identical as on the Surface Book.

Dimensions and Displays

The Surface Pro 4 has a thickness of 8.4mm, being 0.7mm thicker than the Surface Book and both devices benefit from a PixelSense screen, but they have different sizes. So, the Surface Book has a 13.5-inch screen supporting a resolution of 3000 x 2000 pixels with 267ppi, and the aspect ratio is 3:2. With this screen and resolution, the battery lasts up to 12 hours under normal usage.

The screen of the Surface Pro 4 is smaller at 12.3-inch and it supports 5 million pixels, resulting in a pixel density of 2736 x 1824 pixels, but the pixel density is the same.

Cameras

It seems that the Surface pro 4 and the Surface Book have identical cameras – the one on the back has a resolution of 8MP, while the front shooter supports 5MP and the new Windows Hello authentication method, which scans the users’ faces and allows them to unlock their devices.

Accessories

The Surface Pro 4 can be connected to a Type Cover which has backlit keys and a larger trackpad which supports 5-points of sensitivity. The Surface Book has a fully fledged keyboard which is very comfortable and quiet, while the trackpad supports 10-points of sensitivity.

The Surface Pen is compatible with both devices and it has 1,024 points of sensitivity.

Prices

The pricing for the Surface Pro 4 starts at $899 and the tablet will be found in stores on October 26. The Surface Book will be more expensive, starting at $1,499.
