A few days later after the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P have been unveiled, Google has started rolling out its latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow to the LG Nexus 5 2013 device, as expected. So, the firmware whose size is 406.7 MB is now available via OTA update and the installation can take up to 45 minutes.
Before we’ll tell you more about the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow, we’ll talk about the technical specs of the Nexus 5 device, which was created by LG, in 2013. The phone was released with 4.4 KitKat and since then, it received multiple updates, currently running on v5.1.1 (Lollipop).
The device has a plastic back (a floating arc design like many of the LG handsets) which measures 137.9×69.2×8.6mm and weights 130grams. The screen has a reasonable size of 4.95-inch, being a True HD IPS+ capacitive touchscreen which supports a Full HD resolution with 445. Actually, in 2013, the Nexus 5 had some of the best specifications and it was extremely appreciated, especially that it had a very low price of 350dollars for the 16GB variant, while the 32GB variant cost 399dollars.
The Nexus 5 was powered by the fast Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 quad-core 2.3GHz Krait 400 processor, which was paired with Adreno 330 graphics and 2GB of RAM, and came with a rear camera of 8MP with standard features including autofocus, optical image stabilization, LED flash and HDR, while the front camera had a low resolution of 1.3MP, but it was good enough for video calls. The battery had a capacity of 2300 mAh and on paper, it lasted 17 hours when making voice calls over 3G.
The good news is that the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow will improve its battery life, thanks to a new feature called Doze and in addition, the privacy will be protected with runtime app permission.
When the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update will be available for your Nexus 5 device, a notification will be appear on its screen. Then, you will tap the Download button, then the Restart and Install button, which will then reboot your device. When the installation will start, you will see the Installing System Update message and you’ll need to wait until the installation process will complete. After the upgrading is done, you will see that the Nexus 5 smartphone will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
To manually check if the software is available for your phone, you will go to Settings>About phone>System updates>Check for Update.
