Moto G 2015 vs. Honor 4X – Mid-Range Smartphones Compared
Motorola was more preoccupied to perfect its two phablets (Moto X Pure Edition and Play), but the Moto G third edition is very similar in terms of design, only its specs are much weaker. The Honor 4X is a phablet released by Huawei one year ago, but it’s as fast as the Moto G3, because one of the variants of this phone has the same processor, what other similarities are between these models?
Designs, Dimensions and Displays
Motorola didn’t change much the look of the new Moto G, adding only a faux metal vertical band on the back, which contains the camera and the dimple with the logo engraved inside, but instead of matte-finish plastic, the Moto G 2015 has a plastic back with diagonal lines and it’s a bit taller and thicker than the predecessor. It measures 142.1×72.4×11.6mm, it weights 155grams and it’s water resistant up to 1 meter, lasting up to 30 minutes, its screen is an IPS LCD with a diagonal of 5-inch, which supports an average resolution of 720×1280 pixels at 294ppi. Unlike the Moto X Pure Edition, the G3 doesn’t have another premium material to change the back plate, but the customers can select another color.
The Honor 4X has a simple plastic back with metal rim running around the front, which makes the device more rigid. The phablet measures 152.9×77.2×8.7mm and it’s only 10 grams heavier, while the screen is sized at 5.5-inch, and it uses the same IPS LCD technology, but because of the larger size, it has a lower pixel density of 267ppi, resulted from a resolution of 720×1280 pixels, which means that it’s less sharp than the Moto G.
The device is planned to be upgraded to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, while the Honor 4X is stuck with Android 5.0 Lollipop. Both devices are powered by a Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 Quad-core Cortex-A53 processor, but the first model has a higher clock speed of 1.4GHz, outperforming the 1.2GHz processor of the Honor 4X, however, both phones are housing 2GB of RAM, but the Moto G coupled it with 16GB of storage, while the variant with 8GB of storage has half the RAM capacity. As for the Honor 4X, its internal memory is 8GB, but likewise the rival phone, it features a microSD card slot for expansion up to 32GB, Honor 4X has a second variant which is powered by a HiSilicon Kirin 620 octa-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A53 processor.
Cameras and Batteries
Both phones have a 5MP rear camera with autofocus, but the Moto G supports dual-LED and auto HDR, the front camera is also identical, having a resolution of 5MP.
The Honor 4X required a larger battery to handle the bigger screen, so Huawei fitted a 3000mAh cell which, on paper, it lasts 15 hours when making voice calls over 3G, the new Moto G is settling for a 2470mAh battery which lasts 2.5 hours longer than its predecessor.
