Bitdefender vs. Kaspersky – Which One Protects Your Computer More Efficiently?

5

Every computer connected to the internet must have an antivirus program installed on it, because this way, the users won’t worry about getting their devices infected with viruses, worms, Trojans, spyware, malware and other dangerous files. The list of antivirus programs is very rich in offers, but we’ll compare two of the most known names: Bitdefender and Kaspersky.

Prices

To protect your computer for one year, you’ll pay $59.95 for the license of the Bitdefender Internet Security 2015, but if you want your machine to be protected in the next two years, you’ll pay $89.95.

Kaspersky Internet Security has the same price for one year, but the license for two years is cheaper at $82.95.

Interface

After installing Kaspersky, you will have to wait for the security suite to be loaded and all the modules to be enabled. Then, you’ll be welcomed to Kaspersky via a message window and you’ll see that the interface is modern, but what will bother you is the suggestion to try the product’s extra features, which will appear every time you start the security suite. Don’t worry, you can get rid of this recommendation by clicking the box which says “Do not show anymore”. However, Kaspersky was faster in introducing modules which categorize various tools, so that the users don’t need to dig through menu items, in order to access common features.

Bitdefender has a very simple interface, with a black background and bright lettering and the major functions that are used mostly are Protection, privacy and Tools. You’ll find a label for each of these bottoms, which describes their functionality.

Protection

When tested, Kaspersky detected 80 percent of known viruses, which was a mediocre score, because a good score is above 90 percent, and Bitdefender proved that is one of the top performers. The method of detecting viruses is more complex, as the program firstly checks new files, using the current virus database, then when it find potential harmful files, the program sandboxes and supervises them, before taking action. Lastly, when it finds malicious processes, it takes action.

Features

Kaspersky Internet Security offers Safe Money Technology, Identity & Privacy Safeguards, Trusted Applications Mode, Dangerous Website Alerts and Safe Social Networking, each feature taking care of the sections they need to scan and protect.

Bitdefender’s list of features includes Enhanced Parental Controls, Wallet, Bitdefender Autopilot, Cloud-based Anti-Spam and New Security Reporting.
