Apple unveiled in September the fourth gen Apple TV digital media player, which comes after a break of two years. We know that you’re anxious to get your hands on the new device, but fore doing that, you want to know what new features it will bring. Meanwhile, Roku is preparing to release the Roku 4 model, which will support 4K. Its predecessors made a good impression, practically all other streamers were compared to them, not vice versa, anyway, let’s see if the Apple TV 2015 can keep up with the Roku 4.
The Apple TV 2015 is now powered by a dual-core A8 processor, which is backed by 2GB of RAM and it’s enough to stream 1080p video. It’s available in two variants of internal memories of 32GB and 64GB, while the physical dimensions are 98x98x33mm (10mm thicker than the predecessor), resulting in a total weight of 425grams, the connectivity options include 10/100BASE-T Ethernet, 802.11a/b/g/n/ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0.
The Roku 4 will have a quad-core processor, but its type hasn’t been specified. It is known that it will be backed by 1.5GB of RAM and the internal memory will have a capacity of 256 MB which will support a microSD card for additional game and channel storage, but it will be added a USB port as well, for personal media expansion. The device will measure 165x165x20 mm and will be shaped also as a box, while it will weight 408grams, it will support 10/100BASE-T Ethernet, 802.11a/b/g/n/ac WiFi and will be able to stream 4K videos.
The new Apple TV brings a “Siri Remote” with Siri integration which will be used to navigate within movies or to play games. The remote will have options for rewind and fast forward, it will give you information about the weather and it will allow you to use the touch pad on top of it in order to swipe through menus. There is also a built-in IR transmitter with which you can control the volume or turn off the TV or A/V receiver.
The Roku 4 has a new remote which can be used as a basic game controller, but it also contains a clever built-in headphone jack which will allow you to watch TV without bothering the person in your room. Roku added a speaker to the remote, so it will start playing an audio tone when pressing the button on top of the streamer, this is very useful for those who forget where they place their remotes.
