Samsung Galaxy Note 5 vs. Galaxy S6 Edge+ – Will You Choose The S Pen Or The Dual-edge Display?
Until now, Samsung has been focusing on the internal parts of its mobile devices, not caring much about their looks and the fans were curious when they will be surprised with a visual change, after having enough of the cheap looking polycarbonate backs, which had either a glossy finish or fax leather. The South Korean company made a big mistake with the perforated dots which were characteristic to the Galaxy S5 model. And like it wasn’t enough, we’ve seen this design on other tablets such as Galaxy Tab S.
In 2015, Samsung returned in force with the long awaited change and the flagships finally look more premium. But there are too many models using this new design, only their sizes differ. And we’re talking about the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge+, which have been inspired by the Galaxy S6.
Designs And Displays
So, both the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge+ have a shiny glass back which is available in four variants of colors: Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum, Silver Titan and White Pearl. But the Note has slightly curved edges but it’s bulkier, while the Edge+ has a flat back and the frame, which is made of metal, is curved around the he left and right sides of the display. Both devices, which are phablets, are equipped with a fingerprint scanner, but the Note 5 has in addition the popular S Pen stylus which has lots of functions.
Also, the screens have the same size of 5.7-inch and resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels with 518 ppi, and they’re using Samsung’s AMOLED technology, but the Galaxy S6 Edge+ has a curved edge screen. The screen quality is identical, the images very vivid and bright, and the surface of the panel is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 4, which is 80 percent more durable than the glass that is found on other inferior devices.
The Note 5 is shorter, wider, thicker and heavier, so its dimensions are 153.2×76.1×7.6mm, resulting in a total weight of 171 grams (the pencil is included). The Galaxy S6 Edge+ weights 153 grams and its dimensions are 154.4×75.8×6.9mm.
Samsung equipped both phablets with the latest 64bit octa core Exynos 7420 processor consisting of four cores clocked at 2.1GHz and four cores clocked at 1.5GHz. The configuration is completed by 4GB of RAM and the storage options are 32GB and 64GB, which can’t be expanded.
Cameras and Batteries
We don’t have a winner because both phones sport the same pair of cameras, with resolutions of 16MP on the back and 5MP on the front. It’s worth mentioning that their features include optical image stabilization, autofocus, LED flash and 2160p video capture @30fps.
The similarities continue with the identical battery capacity of 3000mAh and the same power saving and power management features, as both devices support fast-charging, which means that the battery can be charged up to a third in 16 minutes.
It seems that the Note 5 is cheaper, as its 32GB variant costs around 650 dollar, with 60 dollars less than the similar variant of the Galaxy S6 Edge+.
