Huawei Nexus 6P vs. HTC One M9 – All-metal Flagship Smartphones Compared
The best looking smartphones are usually made of metal. This is a premium material, but it increases the price of the products and many people can find alternatives with similar hardware specs, but with lower prices because their manufacturers used plastic to build their exteriors. Anyway, today we’ll be talking about two awesome phones that will impress with their design and internal specs, and they are HTC’s One M9 and Huawei’s Nexus 6P.
Designs and Displays
HTC wasn’t very inspired this time, because the One M9 is using almost the same design as the first One M7, featuring a curved back with two thin strips at the top and bottom. The small changes are the new lip which was added along the perimeter, and the rear camera has now a square lens. In addition, HTC brought a dual tone design, with the metal frame having a different color than the back and the combinations of colors include: Gunmetal Gray, Amber Gold, Silver/Rose gold, Gold/Pink and Pink. Compared to the older One M8, this model is 0.2mm thicker, measuring 9.6mm, it weights 157grams and it features a 5-inch Super LCD3 screen with the same Full HD resolution of 1080×1920 pixels at 441ppi.
The Nexus 6P is impressive and its all-metal unibody construction with a black band running across the upper part of the back, which contains the camera. Below you’ll see the new circular fingerprint scanner and on the front side are located the dual speakers. The device is a lot larger, featuring a 5.7-inch screen using AMOLED technology and it supports a much higher resolution of 1440×2560 pixels at 518ppi. Its total weight is 178grams, the thickness is 7.3mm and the three variants of colors are Aluminum, Graphite or Frost.
The One M9 and the Nexus 6P are powered by the same Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 octa core processor, which supports 3GB of RAM, but Huawei used the second and improved version of this processor, because the first model had some serious overheating issues.
Only the One M9 has a microSD card slot which allows you to expand its internal memory from 32GB to 128GB. The Nexus 6P has variants of 32/64/128 GB, but they are fixed.
The One M9 has a smaller 2840 mAh battery and it uses the old v2.0 port, while the Nexus 6P received the newer Type-C reversible plug which can be used for charging the 3450 mAh battery or for transferring data. However, both phones come with fast charge capabilities.
The new main camera from the back of the One M9 supports a resolution of 20MP, but it lacks OIS. The previous 4MP Ultrapixel camera was moved to the front side and with it, you’ll take high quality selfies.
The Nexus 6P uses a rear camera with a lower resolution of 12.3MP, but it offers features such as laser autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash and 1.55µm pixel size, while its front camera is much more advanced at 8MP.
