Here’s an interesting comparison for those of you who are looking for a cheap phone with high-end specs. If you can’t afford, or if you don’t like the Nexus 6P phablet, there’s the smaller Nexus 5X model which has a nice plastic body. We’ll compare it to Meizu’s dual-SIM Metal smartphone, which was launched under its Blue Charm lineup and which will go on sale on November 2.
Designs and Displays
Both phones are budget friendly (the Nexus 5X costs $349 for the 16GB variant, while the equivalent variant of the Meizu Metal will be priced at Rs. 11,300, which is around $275) and both have a fingerprint scanner, only that the Nexus device has it on its back, below the camera, while Meizu integrated it into the home button.
However, the Nexus 5X has a smaller plastic body which measures 147×72.6×7.9mm, it weights 136 grams and it features a 5.2-inch screen supporting 1080×1920 pixels at 424ppi. The Meizu phone has the same resolution, but because the screen is larger at 5.5-inch, and it’s a LTPS protected with 2.5D curved glass and T2X-1 glass. Also, the pixel density is lower at 401ppi. But the body, which has also a rectangular form, is made of aluminum and it’s available in five variants of colors, such as White, Gold, Gray, Blue and Pink.
The Nexus 5X runs on Android OS, v6.0 (Marshmallow) and it’s equipped with a Qualcomm MSM8992 Snapdragon 808 hexa core processor consisting of a quad core clocked at 1.44GHz and a dual core processor running at 1.82GHz, which are backed by Adreno 418 graphics and 2GB of RAM.
The Meizu Metal has a different configuration, more powerful, consisting of a Mediatek MT6795 Helio X10 octa core processor whose clock speed was set to 2GHz, but it supports also 2GB of RAM. This phone is shipped with Android 5.1 Lollipop.
Both phones offer two variants of internal memories with capacities of 16GB and 32GB, but only the Meizu handset provides a microSD card slot for expansion up to 200GB, using SIM 2 slot.
Cameras and Batteries
None of devices support OIS or other revolutionary features which are found on the latest flagships, but at least the 12.3MP primary camera of the Nexus 5X has laser autofocus, dual-LED flash and 1.55µm pixel size and it has a good 5MP front camera for selfies.
The Meizu Metal is fitted with a 13MP back camera only with autofocus and dual-LED flash, while the front camera is also 5MP.
The Nexus 5X has a smaller battery of 2700mAh which can be charged using the USB Type C convertor, while the Meizu phone comes with a 3140mAh battery, but he phone supports a Micro-USB port.
