The R7 is the latest phone from Oppo and faces the competition comfortably with its form factor as well as a reasonable price that is competitive when compared to rival flagship devices.
One of the unique features is the microSD slot that can also be used as a second SIM slot.
Screen and Display
The Oppo R7 comes with a 5 inches display, with Full HD screen resolution and an AMOLED panel, offering a ppi of 445. Games and videos are presented well and the OS isoffered in great texture, enriching the overall experience.
The device runs on the Android Lollipop version, 5.0, but it is not pure Android and is overlaid with a heavy customization. However, there no additional functions have been added and the overlay is simply used for making the device different from other Android phones.
Hardware and Performance
The phone is powered by Qualcomm, octa-core processor and clocks at a speed of 1.5 GHz, with a quad-core CPU as well as a 1 GHz CPU. This is combined with a graphics card, Adreno 405, GPU and a 3GB RAM. It offers an internal storage of 16 GB, but you can add up to 128 GB using the microSD card. However, if you use the slot for expanding storage, it will no longer by dual SIM and is the usual single SIM phone.
The Android software combines with the hardware to offer a smooth and slick experience. There are plenty of animations in the ColorOS, with the hardware ensuring that these are presented eloquently.
The battery is integrated within the phone and supports the VOOC, fast charger. It can replenish the charge very quickly reaching 68% within 28 minutes. The battery is big at 2320 mAh and offers an improvement on that of the R5. It can normally last a whole day with the usual usage of music, videos, photos, browsing the web, social networking and making calls.
Both the front and the rear cameras are proficient in the Oppo R7. The rear camera is a 13 MP one with one LED flash. Pictures are equal to those taken by any other mid-range device. However, the dynamic range is rather limited, and there is image noise in the native resolution. The front camera is more impressive and comes with a resolution of 8 MP.
There are many positives to the R7 from Oppo, as it has a good design of magnesium with aluminum, with agood screen, camera, and battery. The hardware is reasonably competent.
However, the customized overlay on Android may not appeal to all users.
The Oppo R7 is a great phone with a sharp AMOLED screen. The body is slender and comes in a unibody design. It is a dual SIM phone and can be charged quickly. However, it is rather expensive for a mid-range phone. It looks excellent, but the price of $400 can push some buyers away, as there are many other cheaper phones, which have equally good features.
