Samsung Z3 vs. Amazon Fire Phone – Forget About Android or iOS!

0

Nowadays, there are two main categories of phone lovers: those who are obsessed with Apple’s iPhones and those who are looking for an Android device, not caring what company created it, but what specs it has. Besides Android and iOS, there are many other mobile operating systems such as Windows Phone (now 10 Mobile), Blackberry OS, Symbian etc, but we’ll tell you about two less known OS and the devices that come loaded with them: Samsung Z3, which runs on Tizen v2.3 and Amazon Fire Phone, which now it’s upgradable to Amazon Fire OS v3.6.5.

Designs and Displays

The Z3 is the second phone running on Tizen, after Samsung released the Z1 on the Indian market in January 2015. Its design has been improved and its back is now available in Black, Silver and Gold colors. The first Z1 was looking more like a usual mid-range Galaxy handset, having a back with curved edges, but the Z1 has only the left and right sides slightly curved, like Galaxy Edge’s dual-edge display. The front side is similar to any Samsung phone, featuring an oval home button surrounded by two capacitive buttons. The screen measures 5-inch, being a Super AMOLED panel with an average resolution of 720x1280pixels at 294ppi, the physical dimensions are 141.6x70x7.9mm, and the device is not too heavy, as it weights 137grams.

The Fire Phone is an interesting device with a black glass back and a rubberized plastic rim around the edges, while on the front side are placed cameras on each corner and they’re responsible for tracking your face (based these four front cameras, Amazon created a 3D Dynamic Perspective UI). The screen is an IPS LCD sized at 4.7-inch and it supports the same resolution, but its pixel density is higher at 312ppi. This phone weights 160grams and its dimensions are 139.2×66.5×8.9mm.

Hardware

The Z3 uses a less known chipset called Spreadtrum, which houses a quad-core 1.3 GHz processor that is backed by 1GB of RAM and it has an internal memory of only 8GB. Don’t despair! The phone provides a microSD card slot which will allow you to add more storage of up to 128GB, so you’ll have plenty space to save photos and videos or games.

The Fire Phone comes with a respectable 32bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core 2.2GHz Krait 400 which was released last year, and it supports 2GB of RAM, but the internal memory isn’t expandable, but available in two variants of 32GB and 64GB.

Cameras and Batteries

Between the two phones, the Z3 has a better front camera (5MP vs 2.1MP), while the Fire Phone excels with its rear camera (13MP with OIS, autofocus and LED flash vs 8MP with LED flash).

However the Z3 has a bigger battery of 2600mAh and it’s removable, but we don’t know how much it lasts because we haven’t come across any official test result, as for the Fire Phone, on paper, its 2400mAh non-removable battery lasts 22 hours when making voice calls.
