The Galaxy A3 was released in October 2014, while the A7 came in January 2015 and initially, they ran on Android 4.4.4 KitKat, but in the meantime, they were upgraded to 5.0.2 Lollipop and they’re planned to get the latest Lollipop version. But we will talk about their successors, which have been identified as SM-A710 (the successor of the A7) and SM-A310 (the successor of the A3), which were spotted in the GFXBench database.
The original A3 had a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED screen whose resolution was set at 540x960pixels. The device was powered by a weak Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 quad-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A53 processor, which was backed by 1.5GB of RAM. On the rear side, it had an 8MP camera with LED flash and autofocus, while the front camera supported 5MP. Samsung has made a big mistake, actually, two mistakes, the battery was removable and it had a very low capacity of 1900mAh which offered, on paper, 12 hours of talk time.
The successor of the A3 (SM-A310) will have a larger 4.7-inch screen which will support a higher resolution of 720x1280pixels and its processor will be replaced with an Exynos 7580 quad-core, while the rear camera will support now 13MP. The front camera will inherit the old resolution, the internal memory will be also 16GB, but it’s not sure if it will be expanded up to 64GB or up to 128GB.
The A7 was a phablet with a 5.5-inch screen with a Full HD resolution, it had two variants of internal configurations: a Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 chipset with a Quad-core 1.5GHz Cortex-A53 CPU and a quad-core 1.0GHz Cortex-A53 CPU, while the other variant uses a more powerful Exynos 5 Octa 5430 chipset with a quad-core 1.8Cortex-A15 GHz CPU and a quad-core 1.3 Cortex-A7 CPU. Both models supported 2GB of RAM and the cameras had resolutions of 13MP (autofocus and LED flash) and 5MP, the battery supported 2600mAh and it offered 17 hours of talk time.
The SM-A710 successor will feature the same screen size and resolution, but it will be the most lucid display, the chipset will be the same Snapdragon 615, but it will pack eight processors and 3GB of RAM.
In addition to the aforementioned specs, the devices are rumored to have metal bodies which will look more charming, but we don’t know if Samsung will make them slimmer than they already are, the A3’s body has a thickness of 6.7mm, while the A7 measures 6.3mm.
