Google Hangouts 5.1 is here: Numerous Bug Fixes and Improvements on Board
Google Hangouts has received a new version, with the latest update pushing it to Hangouts 5.1.
This update comes in with minor changes to the application as well as a bunch of bug fixes from the previous version 5.0.
Surprisingly, the new version has only been pushed to those using iOS devices via the iTunes App Store. However, it will not be long before those using this application on Android devices receive this over the air (OTA) update.
In the new version, iPhone users will be happy to learn that there are some subtle changes to the Send Button in addition to improvements in the performance of the app. As far as design and layout of the chat app are concerned, there is nothing that has changed.
Google Hangouts 5.1 APK for Android
Google Hangouts is a product of Google, and so is Android. Usually, Android devices tend to be the first when it comes to receiving updates from Google-based applications. The case is, however, a little different this time round as the update has only been pushed to the App Store, and it is not yet available via the Play Store.
This should not frustrate you as an Android user since the update can be accessed as an APK file, but some tweaks must be made to get things up and to run. First you will have to visit the APKMirror website and download the latest Google Hangouts 5.1 APK from there. Once you get the installer package, head to the Security Settings of your phone and check the option labeled “Unknown Sources.”
This tweak allows you to install a file that has not been downloaded from the Play Store to your Android device.
You can now install the downloaded Google Hangouts 5.1 APK on your Android gadget and enjoy the many bug fixes and subtle improvements in the latest version.
Google Hangouts is almost there
Ever since taking the place of the famous Google Talk, Hangouts has been making changes and improvements to this platform in a bid to make it the go-to app when it comes to internet communication.
Just a few months ago, Google announced that it will be availing the Hangouts services on a web platform. This put this application on level terms with players such as Facebook, Skype, and WhatsApp, all of which have a dedicated web client that is accessible through any web browser and on any device.
The platform, which is accessible through the URL hangouts.google.com, also allows users to make phone calls, video calls as well as send messages. When compared to a service like WhatsApp Web, which does not offer all the features and services that the mobile version offers, Hangouts is better placed as far as compatibility is concerned. In fact, the web platform for Google Hangouts further allows users to click on contacts and pin them to their favorites’ list.
