Motorola has announced a new flagship which is expected to be released in December. This is an alternative to the Moto X Play and Pure Edition duo, but it won’t be a cheap device because it will have an unbreakable display and better specs than both of these phones.
Designs and Displays
The Moto X Force will be known in the US as the Moto Droid Turbo 2 and will have a shorter body than the Moto X Play with a similar shape. Its sides are protected by a metal frame, while the rear plate is curved and customizable. The default color is black and the material is Kevlar, but on the official Moto Maker website you’ll find other variants of back plates which are made of leather, wood or resin. The dimensions of this model haven’t been unveiled, but Motorola specified that the Moto X Force is MIL-STD-810G certified, which means that it’s resistant to salt, dust, rain, humidity, vibration, solar radiation, transport and thermal shocks. The screen is a TFT LCD measuring 5.43-inch and its resolution is 1440x2560pixels at 541ppi. But this is the first shatterproof smartphone display, as Motorola used the Moto ShatterShield technology with five layers of protection.
The Moto X Play has a regular plastic back with diagonal lines, but the frame is made of faux metal, just like the vertical strip which contains the camera and logo. The good news is that their colors are customizable on the same website we’ve mentioned above and you can make the Moto X Play look the way you want. The device has a slightly larger display of 5.5-inch, which is an IPS LCD and supports a Full HD resolution of 1080x1920pixels at 403ppi, while its dimensions are 148x75x10.9mm. The phone feels pretty comfortable in your hands, having an average weight of 169grams.
The Moto X Force is one of the fastest Android devices, having under its hood the latest Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 octa core processor which is helped by an Adreno 430 GPU and 3GB of RAM. The phone is really fast and the processor obtained good results in benchmarks. Regarding its internal memory, it’s available in two variants of 32GB and 64GB, which can be increased up to 128GB with a microSD card.
The Moto X Play has only a Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 octa core octa core processor which is backed by Adreno 405 graphics and has 2GB of RAM support. The phone has also two variants of internal memories, but their capacities are 16GB and 32GB and they can be increased up to 128GB as well.
Cameras and Batteries
Motorola has equipped both phones with a 21MP rear camera with an aperture of f/2.0, which support phase detection autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flash, but the Moto X Force has better video recording capabilities: 2160p@30fps vs 1080p@30fps. Also, the functions are the same: slow motion videos, 4x digital zoom, auto HDR and burst mode. The front cameras are also identical and support 5MP with 1.4um pixels.
The Moto X Play has an enormous battery of 3630mAh, but if you thought that Motorola couldn’t do better than that, then imagine that the Moto X Force will be powered by a 3760mAh battery.
