If you use WhatsApp, the most popular mobile messaging app, on an iPhone that is installed with the latest iOS 9.1, there is some excellent news for you.
Facebook has decided to add something cooler to this already cool messaging app as it will now be possible for users to use the Quick Reply functionality when responding to WhatsApp messages. This feature was first availed to users of iOS 8, and it allows users of iPhones to reply to a message notification straight from the notification center without the need for launching the app.
When the functionality came in, it was only compatible with the Messages app; however, things started changing when the new iOS 9 was announced, with Cupertino this time giving room for third party developers to incorporate this feature into their apps.
WhatsApp Quick Reply feature works on iOS 9.1 only
As noted above, iOS 9 came in with less tight restrictions for third party developers as Apple allowed them to include the Quick Reply functionality in their services. While other major messaging platforms such as Facebook Messenger and Skype already took this step with versions ranging from iOS 9.0 to iOS 9.0.2, WhatsApp is for the first time introducing this feature for iPhone users under the latest iOS 9.1.
The official change log of the new app does not mention any of these developments with the recent update. However, these new abilities reflect in the new version alongside other major updates such as support for 3D Touch technology in the latest iPhone 6S and 6S Plus.
On its description page via iTunes, WhatsApp says that the new 3D Touch support on the latest iPhone 6S and 6S Plus will let users “quickly Peek and Pop photos, videos, contact cards, locations and links” they send and receive when chatting. The Facebook-owned app also notes that the new application comes in with a smart interface that is “now mirrored and optimized” to support theright to left languages such as Arabic, but only in iOS 9.
iOS 9.1 also comes in with a bunch of new updates, among them new emojis as well as improvements for the Live Photos app. Other obvious additions are bug fixes as well as stability and performance improvements.
Apple watchOS 2.0.1 also gets WhatsApp Quick Reply functionality
Apple rolled out the Apple Watch a little over a year ago and as of now; the wrist watch has received its first major OS update, the watchOS 2.0.1. Using this new version, owners of an Apple Watch can now respond to WhatsApp messages using message presets. It is even possible to speak out replies, and the watch will draft it down and then send it to the desired recipient.
